We are excited to share a NEW Women-Only Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and Self-Defense program coming to Nipigon! 🥋

This program is a great opportunity to learn practical self-defense techniques while building confidence, strength, fitness, and becoming part of a supportive community.

Time: TBD – Wednesday evenings, based on interest
Minimum of 10 participants required to run the class.

🚧 ROAD CONSTRUCTION NOTICE 🚧

2026 Pulverizing & Paving Projects

The Township of Nipigon will be completing pulverizing and paving work on several roadways as part of our Annual Pulverize & Pave Capital Project.

📍 Roads Being Rehabilitated
• Greenmantle Drive – approximately 400 m
• Bell Street – approximately 225 m
• 9th Street – approximately 150 m

🚜 Pulverizing – September 8 & 9

Pulverizing operations are scheduled to take place on September 8 and 9, 2026, weather permitting.
The affected roadways will be closed to traffic while active pulverizing operations are underway. The contractor and Township staff will make every effort to complete daily preparation so that the roads can be reopened to the public outside of regular working hours, Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Please do not enter areas that are actively under construction and follow all posted signage and directions from construction personnel.

🛣️ Road Preparation – September 10–16
Following pulverizing, the roadways will be graded and prepared for paving.
The roads are expected to remain passable between construction activities, but residents should be prepared for intermittent disruptions, reduced access, and temporary closures while grading and other preparation work is completed.

🏗️ Paving – Tentatively September 17 & 18
Final paving is tentatively scheduled for September 17 and 18, 2026, weather and construction conditions permitting.
Temporary road closures and significant traffic disruptions should be expected while paving operations are underway.

⚠️ What Residents Should Expect
September 8–9:
🔴 Road closures during active pulverizing operations.
September 10–16:
🟡 Roads generally maintained in a passable condition, with intermittent disruptions or closures as preparation work continues.
September 17–18:
🔴 Temporary road closures and traffic disruptions during paving.

Residents are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternate routes where possible, exercise caution around construction equipment, and follow all posted signage.

The Township appreciates residents' patience and cooperation while this important road rehabilitation work is completed.

Have an idea that could make tourism in Northern Ontario more accessible and inclusive?

The Northern Ontario “Spark” Mentorship & Grant Program is offering $3,000 in funding plus mentorship to help bring accessible tourism ideas to life.

Eligible ideas can include experiences, accommodations, dining, retail, mobility improvements, sensory supports, and other ways to make travel easier and more welcoming.

Applications open September 14 and close October 29, 2026.

This is for projects or ideas that offer an exciting experience or attraction, as well as a fresh way to make those experiences welcoming and inclusive.

Individuals, side projects, community groups, and early-stage ideas are all welcome. Even if your idea is barely off the ground, you can apply!

All you need to do is answer a few quick questions, and record a short video.

Selected applicants will be invited to join a pitch contest to showcase their idea…

And winners will receive a $3000 grant, as well as be matched with an industry-expert mentor to help take their project to the next level.
