-Firefighter experience is not needed

Today at 7:38 OFR responded to a car fire on Hwy 3.

On arrival of the first truck, Firefighters saw smoke showing from a semi truck. Our crews quickly knocked out the fire and went into overhaul.

Osoyoos Fire Rescue responded with 2 engines, 2 support vehicles and 11 firefighters to the emergency call.

Osoyoos Fire Rescue thanks RCMP & Anarchist Mountain Fire Department crews for their support. Our crews returned back to the station around 9:15.

Osoyoos Fire Rescue is aware of a large column of smoke that is visible to the west. This smoke is being generated by the Sinlahekin Fire, south of the border in Washington State.

Osoyoos Fire Rescue along with provincial agencies, continue to monitor this event and are in contact with the Incident Management Team coordinating firefighting efforts.

This fire is a significant distance to the west and is moving in a north westerly direction.

Should a change in conditions occur, further updates will be provided.

Osoyoos Fire Rescue was proud to take part in Hearts for Heroes, an event that recognizes and supports the people who work every day to keep our communities safe. We also had our very own Firefighter Colin Lancaster who was honoured for over 45 years of service.

Proceeds from the event were donated to Honour House Society, a “home away from home” for members and families in need of emergency housing.

Thank you to the organizers who helped make the event a success and to all those who attended.

This Friday members of Osoyoos Fire Rescue will be welcoming The Rolling Barrage ride as it passed through our community.

The Rolling Barrage will be going into its 10th year of coast-to-coast riding and awareness to combat the stigma associated with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

Join us from 4:00pm->5:30pm at the Osoyoos Co-op Gas Bar as we meet the motorcade for their pit stop in our community.

As our firefighters wrap up their deployment to the Bald Range Wildfire, we’re taking a moment to reflect on the past 10 days in Summerland.

Throughout the deployment, 19 of our members rotated through the assignment, working together to support wildfire operations and our neighbouring communities. We thank them all for their time and commitment.

The Bald Range wildfire is still classified as out of control and is at 19,891 hectares. The fire is still active and we encourage folks to stay updated by receiving updates directly from BCWS & Local Agencies.

Sharing the following as Highway 97 is open for through traffic only between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm.

Road restrictions are in place. Follow the signs and directions of all emergency personnel as you drive through the corridor.

- There is NO ACCESS to any of the side roads to enter Evacuation Orders areas, without a valid RDOS Temporary Access Pass (TAP).
- Those with a Temporary Access Pass will be provided with information about which access point to use.
- Speed limits have been reduced to 70 km/h
- The Highway will be open to public traffic from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm each day to allow crews access to continue work overnight.

If the situation changes, the highway may be closed again with limited notice. Be prepared.

Sinlahekin Wildfire Update:
The Emergency Management downgraded more evacuation Levels yesterday, as they continue gain containment on the fire. Still much hard work to go, but crews are all over the fire building and strengthening containment lines and mopping up well inside the fire perimeter.

The fire is currently 144,841 acres and is 42% contained.

Bald Range Wildfire Update (K51490):
Firefighters including our own Osoyoos crews, structure protection personnel, helicopters and airtankers are responding. The fire is currently 15,590 hectares in size and classified as Out of Control.
