Fire Prevention Week continues with our focus on best practices with lithium-ion batteries.

⚠️ Safe charging habits can help prevent battery fires.

To reduce risk:

❌ Don’t charge batteries on beds, couches, or under pillows
❌ Don’t park or store e-bikes and e-scooters inside your home or near exit doors

If a battery fails, fire and smoke can spread quickly and block escape routes. As part of Fire Prevention Week, check that you’re safely charging and storing your lithium-ion batteries.

đź“š đźš’ What a great start to Fire Prevention Week!

Today, we welcomed 20+ families to the fire hall for a special experience with our friends from the Port Moody Public Library.

Families learned how to test their smoke alarms, safely operate a fire extinguisher, and explore one of our fire trucks through an interactive hands-on experience.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make fire safety fun, engaging, and memorable.

We love connecting with our community and helping families build knowledge and confidence to stay safe at home.

This year, Port Moody Fire Rescue is focusing on lithium-ion battery safety.

🔋Lithium-ion batteries power many everyday devices, from laptops and tablets to e-bikes and e-scooters. Help reduce the risk of battery fires:

âś… Buy certified batteries and chargers only
âś… Use the correct charger for your battery

❌ Don’t overcharge batteries
❌ Don’t use batteries that are damaged, swollen, leaking, overheating, or making popping sounds

During Fire Prevention Week, take a moment to check your batteries and charging equipment.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we pause to remember the 2,977 lives lost, the families forever changed, and the extraordinary courage shown by first responders and emergency personnel who answered the call without hesitation.

As firefighters, we honour the bravery and sacrifice of our brothers and sisters who responded that day, many of whom gave their lives in service to others.

Their commitment, selflessness, and dedication continue to inspire firefighters around the world.

From all of us at Port Moody Fire Rescue, we stand in remembrance, gratitude, and respect.

Congratulations Amaya Kubo on successfully completing Camp Ignite 2026.

We first met Amaya after she completed a successful application, physical abilities test, and panel interview to become a member of our Junior Firefighter Program.

This young lady has a tremendous heart and an undeniable spirit. She never turns away from a challenge.

We are incredibly proud of everything she has accomplished and can’t wait to see what the future holds for her.

Great work, Amaya!
