Exercise Western Sabre 2026 brought together over 1,000 soldiers from three brigades of the 3rd Canadian Division at CFB Wainwright, forging them into a powerful fighting force.

The Royal Regina Rifles faced realistic combat scenarios. During the Advance to Contact exercise, Infantry, Armoured, and Artillery units collaborated to cover several kilometres of challenging terrain, effectively engaging and defeating enemy forces.

The Royal Regina Rifles, alongside units from the 38 Canadian Brigade Group’s Infantry Company Group, demonstrated remarkable skill and effectiveness in these operations.

L’exercice Western Sabre 2026 a réuni plus de 1 000 soldats de trois brigades de la 3e Division canadienne à la BFC Wainwright, les forgeant en une force de combat puissante.

Les Royal Regina Rifles ont affronté des scénarios de combat réalistes. Lors de l’exercice d’Avance au Contact, les unités d’infanterie, blindées et d’artillerie ont collaboré pour parcourir plusieurs kilomètres de terrain difficile, engageant et défaisant efficacement les forces ennemies.

Les Royal Regina Rifles, aux côtés des unités du groupe de la compagnie d’infanterie du 38e Groupe-brigade du Canada, ont démontré une compétence et une efficacité remarquables dans opérations.

Bio:

Lieutenant Colonel Kevin Andrew Barry, MMM, CD was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.

He joined the army 27 November 1986 as a Private and was posted to the Third Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (3 PPCLI). He was then posted to 2 Commando, the Canadian Airborne Regiment in 1994 where he was promoted to Sergeant. He went to Edmonton with the rest of the PPCLI Parachute Company in 1995, and with the re-formation of 3 PPCLI, was employed as a Section Commander and Platoon 2IC. In 1999 he was commissioned from the ranks, and was posted to 1 PPCLI where he was a Platoon Commander, LAV Captain and a Coy 2IC. Posted to HQ 1 CMBG in 2005, he served as G3 Plans and G3 Ops and was promoted to Major in 2008. He was posted to 3 PPCLI as an OC, he became DCO in June 2010, and assumed command as Commanding Officer March 2011 to June 2012. After French Language Training he was posted to 3rd Canadian Division Headquarters as the G37 and later G5 Force Development. He assumed command of The Royal Regina Rifles on 16 Aug 2025.
