Portrait of Denny Neptune Soccabeson of the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Fort Sherbrooke (Fort Sullivan} in Eastport in 1817 during the British occupation of Eastport. Portrait is possibly the work of Lt. Alexander Henry Charles Villiers and is in the collections of Colonial Williamsburg.

PORTRAIT OF CHIEF SAPIEL SELMORE, C.1900! Portrait photograph from an original glass plate negative in our collections of Passamaquoddy Tribal Chief Sapiel Selmore who was dressed in traditional ceremonial regalia for the occasion. Photo dates to about 1900 and was taken by photographer, Charles. E. Brown, of Eastport, Maine. The glass plate negative is part of a large collection of glass plate negatives, now known as the Charles E. Brown Family Collection, that recently were gifted to the Tides Institute with the vast majority taken by Brown.

Tomah Joseph is an important historic elder in Passamaquoddy and Indigenous History as he was elected Governor for the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Peter Dana Point (Motahkomikuk) and was a mentor to 32nd President of the United States, Franklin D. Roosevelt.

He was a renowned craftsman, fishing expert and guide.
