The ceremony featured remarks from Tom Marks, Chair of the Joint Accessibility Advisory Committee, followed by the reading of the National AccessAbility Week proclamation by Deputy Warden Grant Jones.

National AccessAbility Week is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions and leadership of persons with disabilities while recognizing the importance of creating communities where everyone can participate, contribute, and thrive.

At Elgin County, we are committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive community and workplace. Accessibility is a shared responsibility, and through ongoing collaboration, education, and action, we can continue to remove barriers and build a more accessible future for all.

As Museum Month comes to a close, it is a great reminder that preserving and sharing our heritage remains important year-round.

There is still plenty of time to visit our newest special exhibition, 𝗘𝘆𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗲𝘀, now on display at the Elgin County Heritage Centre. This interactive travelling exhibit explores the fascinating world of air traffic control in Canada through hands-on activities, stories, and aviation technology for all ages.

The City of St. Thomas has shared an upcoming road closure that may impact travel in and around the area.

𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘀 - 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟲, 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲

Elgin County Council and the Committee of the Whole met to review reports, consider recommendations, and discuss matters related to transportation infrastructure, planning, municipal operations, community services, and organizational initiatives. Here are a few highlights from the meetings:

𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴
• Presentation from the VON Ontario Student Nutrition Program on the impact of school nutrition initiatives supporting more than 10,000 students across Elgin County
• Awarding of the contract for intersection improvements and traffic signal installation at Belmont Road and Seventh Avenue in Belmont
• Awarding of the contract for the reconstruction of Putnam Road in the community of Avon

• Support for updates to wastewater servicing easement agreements related to Elgin Manor and Royal Oaks Senior Living Residence
• Selection of a new Managed IT Services Provider following a competitive RFP process

🚧 𝗜𝗼𝗻𝗮 𝗥𝗼𝗮𝗱 𝗥𝗲𝗵𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝗢𝗻𝗲 - 𝗣𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴

Work is beginning along Iona Road from Third Line to the bridge at the Thames River as part of a multi-step road rehabilitation project.

🛣️ 𝗕𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗿𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟵, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗱𝗮𝘆, 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟯𝟬, 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘆𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘄𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴.

Road rehabilitation is completed in a two-step process. First, the existing asphalt is recycled on site and reused as the new road base. Later, a final asphalt driving surface will be applied. There may be several weeks or months between these stages as different contractors complete the work.

⚠️ Following recycling operations, drivers should expect a granular-like driving surface until final paving is completed later this summer. Line painting will occur after the final asphalt surface is placed, in the meantime, please drive with extra caution.

Founded in 2025 by husband-and-wife team 𝗔𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗚𝗶𝗻𝗮 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗻, 𝗣𝗶𝘁𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 is a West Elgin-based business dedicated to helping small and medium-sized companies build safer workplaces.
