We look forward to seeing ticket-holders this evening - please check in at the MacNaught History Centre and Archives, 75 Spring Street, 10 minutes before your tour time.

Dress warmly, bring a flashlight if you wish, and come ready to hear stories our spirits have been waiting to tell you.

CALL FOR ARTISTS: Celebrating 150 Years of Harness Racing in Summerside

Harness racing has been part of Summerside's history for generations, bringing together sport, community, and tradition. Artists are invited to submit an expression of interest regarding a proposed work inspired by the history, people, atmosphere, movement, and stories associated with harness racing in Summerside. The finished work remains owned by the artist.

The call is open to artists working in two-dimensional media, including painting, photography, drawing, printmaking, illustration, mixed media, and other two-dimensional art forms. Proposed works must be suitable for scanning or photography. The medium, glass, and framing should allow a clear, high-quality reproduction. Reproduction suitability will be considered during selection.

The deadline to submit the Expression of Interest Form is Friday, October 30th, 2026 at 4:30 pm, OR when 30 applications have been received, whichever comes first. Culture Summerside will select up to 20 artists from the first 30 applications received. Each selected artist will receive a $300.00 artist loan fee. Submission does not guarantee selection.

A reminder to the public that the 2026 Summerside Historic Ghostwalk (SOLD OUT) is taking place tomorrow, Thursday, October 15th between 6:30 pm and 9:30 pm.

Please be mindful of the extra pedestrian and motor traffic in the downtown and historic district during this time.

⚠️🚘 TRAFFIC ADVISORY (October 15, 2026)

Please be advised that an event hosted by Culture Summerside (Summerside Historical Ghost Walk) will take place on Thursday, October 15, 2026. This walking tour will result in increased pedestrian activity on city streets between 6:30 and 9:30 PM.

Increased foot traffic can be expected along sections of Spring, Central, Summer, and Foundry Streets.

While no road closures are planned, motorists are asked to use caution, plan ahead, and allow extra travel time when travelling through these areas.

Today is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Culture Summerside sites will be closed in observance.

The meaning behind the visuals in this post:

"The design honours the children who never returned home from residential schools, Survivors, their families and communities.

In the centre are three symbols: a feather, a narwhal, and a flower. Each symbol represents the distinct cultures of First Nations, Inuit and Métis communities, brought together in a circular flowing composition to reflect the connection between the groups.

Above the central elements, stars surrounding the moon honour the children who never returned home from residential schools and symbolize their enduring place in our thoughts and memory. The dotted patterns evoke beadwork and reflect the importance of passing down art, culture and traditions from one generation to the next.

Flowing lines connect the elements of the design, reflecting the connections between land, water, communities and generations. Their winding path represents the journey of reconciliation and reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing process.

The colour orange represents remembrance and the enduring message that every child matters."
