Before Dracula became the world's most famous vampire, Bram Stoker was a Dublin boy who could not walk until he was seven. Years later, a visit to an old library, a mysterious book and a journey to the Yorkshire coast would give him more pieces for the story.

Stoker drew inspiration from the world around him, but the origins of Dracula are much stranger than a simple tale of Vlad the Impaler. Follow the trail behind the novel and uncover what really helped create the Count.

Opened in February 1876, Canada's Library of Parliament celebrated its 150th anniversary this year, and its story is one of remarkable survival: it was the only part of the original Centre Block left standing after the fire of 1916. Its iconic domed hall even appears on the Canadian ten-dollar bill. The library is temporarily closed to visitors while Centre Block undergoes the largest heritage rehabilitation in Canadian history, with the building expected to reopen in the early 2030s. Until then, you can step inside virtually through Parliament: The Immersive Experience at 211 Sparks Street, a free 360° show that brings the library and other historic spaces to life.

A hideaway for bibliophiles has sprung up in Tokyo... Book And Bed Tokyo Shinjuku is a library that won’t kick readers out after hours. In fact, this library encourages you to spend the night, because it’s actually a hotel.
Book and Bed Tokyo, a bookstore-themed hotel, allows guests to sleep in true Japanese-style compartments built into the bookshelves that house more than 1,700 English and Japanese books.
Located in a high-rise in Tokyo’s Ikebukuro neighborhood, the hotel can host 12 guests amongst its bookshelves in compartments ranging from $32 to $50 a night depending on the size.
Outside of the common reading area, outfitted in comfy couches, there is room for an additional 18 guests in similar compartments.
The self-described “accommodation bookstore” may not have the luxurious amenities of a five star hotel (compartments are a tiny seven feet by four feet, with just one bed in each) but the Book and Bed Tokyo makes it clear that the experience is more about dozing off with a good book than sleeping on a plush mattress.
The hotel eventually hopes to expand to a collection of 3,000 books, which will include plenty of Japan guides in English, and while the literature is free to read for guests, none of the books are actually for sale. For those who would rather swipe a screen than flip a page, Book and Bed Tokyo is also e-book friendly and offers guests free Wi-Fi.
