Funding announcement! ⚓

We’re excited to announce $3,252 from the CEDC Tourism Development Fund in support of the Conference of the Association for Great Lakes Maritime History (AGLMH) 2026.

Taking place September 10th to 12th at the Thunder Bay Museum, the event will bring together AGLMH members from around the Great Lakes to share news about research and heritage programming initiatives.

With more than 45 out of town visitors over the three day event, the Conference of the Association for Great Lakes Maritime History is projected to generate an estimated $30,000 in economic impact for Thunder Bay.

After completing comprehensive business training sessions, developing detailed business plans, and preparing financial projections, these dedicated entrepreneurs have each received a $5,000 grant to help grow their small businesses.

📢 The Thunder Bay CEDC has officially launched its 2026 Work Here campaign—a national marketing initiative designed to showcase Thunder Bay as an exceptional place to live, work, and build a career.

Running across Canada from June through September, the campaign highlights Thunder Bay's unique lifestyle advantages, including its natural beauty, outdoor recreation opportunities, vibrant culture, and outstanding quality of life. Using authentic local footage and community-generated content, the campaign encourages skilled workers and prospective residents to discover why more Canadians are choosing to call Thunder Bay home.

The campaign directs audiences to the newly launched www.workinthunderbay.ca, where visitors can explore career opportunities, learn about life in Thunder Bay, and connect with the community.

By attracting skilled workers and new residents, the Work Here campaign supports local employers, strengthens our workforce, and advances key priorities in Thunder Bay CEDC's 2026–2030 Strategic Plan and supports the City of Thunder Bay's Smart Growth Action Plan.

Funding announcement!☀️

We are excited to announce a $15,000 contribution from the CEDC Tourism Development Fund in support of Festival Bonjour.

The event will take place from June 18th to 20th at Waverley Park and will showcase open-air concerts, movies and street food for Francophones and the Franco-curious. With over 350 attendees, the event is expected to generate an estimated $216,600 in economic impact for our community.

Starter Company Plus Entrepreneurs Take the Stage for Final Pitch Presentations🎯

Last month marked the final pitch presentations for this year's Starter Company Plus participants. After several weeks of workshops, one-on-one coaching, and business plan development, entrepreneurs had the opportunity to present their business ideas to a review committee for a chance to receive up to $5,000 in funding.

The presentations showcased the hard work, dedication, and innovation of local business owners as they took an important step toward growing their ventures and bringing their ideas to life.

Thunder Bay CEDC CEO Jamie Taylor, along with Cheryl Lamers, Community Development Manager, and Ally Drombolis, Tourism Development Officer, recently participated in the Governor General’s Canadian Leadership Conference (GGCLC), one of Canada’s most prestigious leadership development initiatives🇨🇦

Held every few years, the conference brings together accomplished leaders from the public, private, and non-profit sectors from across the country.

Participants engage in immersive learning experiences and regional study tours designed to deepen their understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing Canada, while exploring this year’s theme, “Leading Canada’s Sustainable Prosperity.”
