Harris Road is blocked East of Money Lake, West of the top of the vineyard hill. There is a tree across the road, lying on hydro wires. The road is impassable. BC Hydro has told us they are unable to respond tonight due to high winds. Crews will arrive on the first ferry tomorrow.

Burn Ban as of 1200 noon Friday May 30.

In keeping with the Coastal Fire Centre's prohibitions, as of noon tomorrow, the following activities will be banned:
Category 3 fires: Open fires more than 3mx3m (already banned on Saturna)
Category 2 fires: Open fires less than 3mx3m but more than .5m
Burn Barrels: burning in burn barrels will also be banned

Campfires no larger than .5m wide (20") will still be permitted for the time being

This prohibition will be in effect until rescinded, likely in the fall.

And don't forget to get your tickets for the Pig BBQ Saturday night - tickets at the Saturna General store, doors open at 6pm.

A test of the BC Emergency Alert System is happening at 1:55PM on Wednesday, Nov 20th. This alert will go out on on cell phones, TVs and radios across BC. While it's designed to get your attention, it will be clear that it's a test.

These tests help make sure the BC Emergency Alert System is working in case of an actual life-threatening emergency. BC has issued 13 emergency alerts in 2024 so far.

A strong storm is forecast for the coast of BC. People in coastal regions and Vancouver Island can expect strong winds starting Tuesday afternoon through to Wednesday morning. Some areas could also see heavy rain at times.

Storms like this, that pick up strength quickly, are informally called bomb cyclones. While the name sounds alarming, they happen fairly often. The severity of their impact depends on how close they get to land. This storm is expected to be strong, but to stay offshore.

Even so, power outages in parts of BC are likely and BC Ferries expects to have to cancel some sailings. Make sure you have a plan for power outages and check conditions before you travel.
