I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life following the boat accident off the coast of Kyrenia/Girne.

My heartfelt condolences go to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and to everyone affected by this terrible tragedy. At such a painful moment, our thoughts are also with those still waiting for news of their loved ones.

I wish strength and courage to the rescue teams who continue their tireless efforts to save lives.

My thoughts are with the entire Turkish Cypriot community at this very difficult time.

But by the end of the evening, one thing was clear: Swiss precision and Cyprus dance make a wonderful combination.
This year’s Swiss National Day celebration in Pafos came alive with traditional Cypriot music and dance - a beautiful reminder that friendship is built not on our differences, but on the joy of sharing the dance floor!

Happy Swiss National Day! On 1 August, Switzerland commemorates the Federal Charter of 1291, symbolizing the alliance of the original cantons and the enduring foundation of Swiss independence, unity, and direct democracy. Today, all our cantons celebrate the Swiss National Day! Another successful year of doing what we do best: being punctual, debating everything, voting on almost anything, producing excellent chocolate and cheese… and reminding the world that neutrality doesn’t mean inactivity.
We thank our Cypriot friends, partners, and the Swiss community for the warm friendship and excellent cooperation we enjoy every day.
Fortunately, friendship requires no referendum. The Swiss may love voting - but our friendship with Cyprus and its wonderful people of the island was unanimous from the start.

Yesterday, on the World Day Against Trafficking Persons, Ambassador Christoph Burgener participated at a roundtable meeting organized by "Step up - Stop Slavery" in Nicosia. Human trafficking is a grave violation of human rights that exploits brutally the most vulnerable. Together we can help restore hope and protect human dignity!
