On 14 August 2026, the Berlin ASEAN Committee (BAC) Ambassadors undertook a productive visit to Airbus Hamburg, gaining valuable insights into the company’s global operations and its growing engagement in the ASEAN region. The delegation was welcomed by Ms. Nicole Dreyer‑Langlet, Vice‑President of Digital Workplace and Digital and Member of the Board of Airbus Operations GmbH, together with Ms. Karen Apitzsch, Director of International Government Affairs. They provided a comprehensive briefing on Airbus’ strategic footprint across Southeast Asia, highlighting cooperation with regional partners, technological innovation, and long‑term commitments to aviation development in ASEAN markets.

Following the briefing, the Ambassadors were guided through the Airspace Customer Definition Centre by Ms. Hélène Menweg, Head of Airspace, Customer Definition Centre. The tour showcased Airbus’ approach to cabin design, emphasizing passenger comfort, customization, and the integration of digital tools that allow airlines to tailor cabin concepts to their operational needs.

The visit continued with an impressive tour of the A320 assembly line, offering a close view of Airbus’ advanced manufacturing processes and the precision required in assembling one of the world’s most widely used aircraft families. The delegation observed how efficiency, safety, and sustainability are embedded throughout production.

The programme concluded with a briefing on the Airbus Beluga, the company’s distinctive oversized transport aircraft. The Ambassadors learned about its unique capabilities, including the transport of large aircraft components and its expanding role in supporting diverse logistical missions.

The visit provided a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding of Airbus’ technological leadership and its strong partnerships within the ASEAN region.

Marking 59 years of regional integration, ASEAN's journey began when five nations chose cooperation, anchored by founding leaders like Malaysia's Tun Abdul Razak. Through pivotal milestones, from establishing landmark agreements such as the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) to hosting the inaugural East Asia Summit during Malaysia's Chairmanship 2005, the region continuously elevated ASEAN Centrality while laying strong legal foundations via the ASEAN Charter.

Malaysia continues driving a forward-looking agenda under the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 in maintaining regional peace and stability, economic integration and socio-cultural cooperation. Happy 59th ASEAN Day as we continue navigating our future, together!
