Day 6 of the 2026 U.S. Army Europe and Africa was spent in squad situational training exercise lanes at Grafenwoehr Training Area, Germany, where teams moved through multiple tactical missions built to test leadership, communication, medical proficiency, tactical movement, and battle drills under realistic conditions.

Every movement mattered. Every call echoed across the tree line. Every squad fought to prove they have the grit, cohesion, and lethality to rise above the rest.

From July 30 to August 6, elite squads across the theater are locked in a contest of will and skill. Only one will earn the right to advance to the U.S. Army Best Squad Competition, where two Soldiers will stand alone as Army’s Best NCO of the Year and Army’s Best Soldier of the Year.

This is where excellence is forged. This is where the Army’s story is written.

U.S. Army Europe and Africa Soldiers are pushing past their limits in Day Five of the Best Squad Competition at the Grafenwoehr Training Area in Germany. Today, squads tackled the intense Situational Training Exercise (STX)—testing their physical endurance, mental agility, and tactical decision-making under grueling, realistic operational conditions.

🏆 What's on the Line?

From July 30 to August 6, the finest squads across the theater are competing for the ultimate bragging rights. Only one squad will advance to represent the command at the overall U.S. Army Best Squad Competition, where two standout individuals will be crowned:

Army's Best NCO of the Year 🎖️

Army's Best Soldier of the Year 🏅

These Soldiers represent the very best of professional excellence, communication, and squad-level lethality.
