Today, the Interreg Leaders’ Forum is taking place in Brussels under the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU 2026, bringing together high-level representatives from all Interreg programmes and key EU institutions. 🇪🇺

The forum focuses on Interreg’s role after 2027, its place in the next EU budget, and how territorial cooperation can deliver real impact for Europe. It is a key moment to shape the future strategic direction of Interreg and reinforce the importance of cross-border cooperation in EU policymaking.

We look forward to the discussions and the outcomes that will help define the next chapter of Interreg.

🇪🇺 Interreg highlights resilience at the EUSBSR Annual Forum 2026 in Tallinn

Interreg programmes from across the Baltic Sea region are taking part in the EU Strategy for the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) Annual Forum 2026, held in Tallinn on 11–13 May. This year’s Forum focuses on resilience and how regions can work together to respond to shared challenges such as security, climate change and demographic shifts.

At the Interreg joint stand in the Networking Village 💫, programmes showcase concrete project results and practical solutions developed through cross-border and transnational cooperation. Interreg also contributes to the Forum programme with a breakout session on how project results can support policy development and future cooperation.

Our programme consultant Laura Jessop recently visited Lake Võnnu in Kastre vald, where the first two project prototypes were officially launched into the water. 💧

We are happy to share and show what our projects are doing and it is great to see project Nutriloopworks moving from ideas and cooperation into practical solutions for better nutrient management in municipalities. ☺️

The prototypes are designed to remove phosphorus from water while also considering environmental value and maintenance. One combines a submersible phosphorus-absorbing filter cartridge with an aerator, while the other is a floating structure that also serves as a birdhouse.

This is what cross-border cooperation 🇪🇪 🇱🇻 is about: testing practical solutions, learning together, and creating new approaches for improved water quality and smarter nutrient reuse.

Well done to the NutriLoopWorks team! 👏

An exciting and busy working day outside the office today for our Inese💧🌱

These days, she is in Dienvidkurzemes Municipality for the HydroScope kick-off meeting, together with partners launching an important cooperation on protecting cross-border groundwater resources and the ecosystems that depend on them from pollution and extreme climate events.

The HydroScope project aims to strengthen groundwater protection and management in Saaremaa and Dienvidkurzeme municipalities by developing real-time monitoring, early warning systems, and smarter decision-making tools. By the end of the project, these platforms are expected to be fully functional and integrated into municipal workflows, supporting biodiversity and enabling faster responses to pollution events 💙🤝

A new strategic development vision is ready for the Võrtsjärve–Emajõgi–Peipsi water area 🌊

The development vision is based on two strategic documents:

🔹 “Developing the Võrtsjärve–Emajõgi–Peipsi network and waterway”, focusing on tourism, environmental protection and access to water. Its aim is to improve how the water area is used, managed and connected, so that tourism, local life and nature can develop in a balanced way.

🔹 “Koiva and Emajõgi Strategy 2040 and Action Plan”, which sets a shared direction for Estonian and Latvian partners for the balanced development of the river basins and strengthens cross‑border cooperation. The aim is to support healthier river ecosystems, better water management and stronger collaboration across borders.

You can submit proposals for both strategic documents until 20 March 2026. Here is your chance to have your say! 💬
