Mannerheimin johdolla Suomi aloitti tien kohti aselepoa. 19. syyskuuta 1944 Moskovassa allekirjoitettiin jatkosodan päättänyt välirauhansopimus. Lopullinen rauhansopimus solmittiin Pariisissa vuonna 1947.

🇫🇮 The End of the Continuation War in 1944
The Continuation War, which had lasted more than three years, ended in September 1944. The ceasefire between Finland and the Soviet Union took effect on September 4, 1944. However, Soviet forces continued firing in some areas until the following morning.
In the summer of 1944, Finland’s military and political situation was extremely challenging. In the spring, the government’s inner circle had already concluded that only Marshal Mannerheim possessed enough authority to lead Finland out of the war.
President Risto Ryti resigned from his post on the last day of July. The Parliament passed an emergency law in just three days, and on August 4, 1944, Mannerheim was elected the President of the country. Under Mannerheim’s leadership, Finland began the path toward a ceasefire. On September 19, 1944, an armistice agreement ending the Continuation War was signed in Moscow. The final peace treaty was signed in Paris in 1947.
