796 Coronary Angiograms. 796 opportunities for early diagnosis and counting. ❤️

Since May 2025, the Cath Lab at Lautoka Hospital has performed 796 coronary angiograms, the gold-standard imaging procedure used to diagnose coronary artery disease.

A coronary angiogram gives cardiologists a detailed view of the heart's blood vessels, helping them detect blockages, assess heart health, and determine the most appropriate treatment as early as possible.

For hundreds of Fijians, this has meant receiving accurate, timely diagnosis without the need to travel overseas.

Every early diagnosis creates the opportunity for earlier treatment, better outcomes, and greater peace of mind for patients and their families.

Bringing world-class cardiac diagnostics closer to home is helping transform heart care across Fiji, one patient at a time.

1,007 procedures. One year. Countless lives impacted. ❤️

Since opening in May 2025, the Cath Lab at Lautoka Hospital has performed 1,007 cardiac procedures, giving patients access to advanced heart care right here in Fiji.

That averages nearly three procedures every single day, providing timely diagnosis and treatment for people who, in the past, may have had no option but to travel overseas for care.

Behind every procedure is a person, a family, and a story of hope. By bringing advanced cardiac services closer to home, more Fijians can receive the care they need, when they need it most.

This milestone reflects the dedication of our cardiac team and our ongoing commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for the people of Fiji.

❤️ Every procedure represents another opportunity to protect a life and keep families together.

134 blocked arteries opened. 134 lives given a second chance. ❤️

Since May 2025, the Cath Lab at Lautoka Hospital has performed 134 coronary stenting procedures (PTCA), restoring blood flow to the heart using a tiny balloon and stent, often without the need for open-heart surgery.

In addition to these procedures, many more patients have received life-changing care through balloon angioplasty, peripheral vascular interventions, temporary pacing support, and other advanced cardiac procedures, all delivered closer to home.

For many patients, treatment that once required overseas travel can now be provided on the spot, allowing them to recover sooner and return home in days, not weeks.

Every successful procedure is another step towards ensuring more Fijians have access to timely, advanced cardiac care when they need it most.

❤️ Restoring blood flow. Restoring hope. Restoring lives.

Today, we officially commissioned two new i8-M250 Medical Waste Incinerators at Lautoka Hospital, purpose-built for the safe, efficient, and compliant disposal of clinical and medical waste.

While officiating at the event, Acting Permanent Secretary for Health and Medical Services, Dr Luisa Cikamatana, said the state-of-the-art medical waste treatment units replace infrastructure that had served faithfully for many years but had reached the end of its operational life.

"These medical waste treatment units are equipped with modern emissions control technology and perform well within international environment standards. They will strengthen the hospital's ability to manage healthcare waste safely, efficiently and responsibly," she said.

Aspen Medical CEO Gavin Whiteside said, "This investment represents far more than new equipment. It reflects our commitment to protecting patients, healthcare workers, communities, and the environment through world-class waste management practices."

Meanwhile, the new incinerators will not only serve Lautoka Hospital but will also provide medical waste disposal services for the majority of the Western Division, creating a centralized and highly effective solution for healthcare waste management across the region.
