🔬 Today, CTSI's Lead Officer for Cosmetics & Beauty, Richard Knight, gave evidence to the House of Commons Science, Innovation and Technology Committee on Cosmetic Treatments.

Richard put the case clearly: consumers need better education about the risks posed by cosmetic products, and our campaign continues to highlight exactly why.

But education alone isn't enough. We renewed our call, first made at CTSI Conference last year, for a dedicated multi-agency government task force to tackle the serious and growing dangers posed by unregulated aesthetics treatments.

Trading Standards funding has fallen by 50% over the last decade. Colleagues are being asked to do more with far less — on products that carry real, sometimes life-threatening, risks.

Thank you to to the Committee for hearing us. The evidence is in. Now we need action.

CTSI welcomes the Home Office's latest announcement of a new £30m High Street organised crime unit, as well as new funding for Trading Standards to fight against organised crime on UK high streets.

This signals the start of a targeted multi-agency response in tackling the vast and complex criminal networks on our high streets. Alongside partners, CTSI's campaigning on serious and organised crime on UK high streets has put the issue, and profession, firmly on the national agenda. Developed with ACG, the "Hidden in Plain Sight" report highlighted the challenges faced by enforcement agencies, and suggested a ten-point plan to reclaim our high streets.

To build on current momentum, we are bringing together experts from across partner agencies like the NCA and Home Office to explore the scale of the threat, and consider the response needed. At Conference, we will explore criminal activity, from the sale of illegal vapes, to***co, and counterfeit goods, to illegal money lending and wider consumer harm.

Now is the time to register for Conference: https://ow.ly/flEZ50Z2leZ

Artificial intelligence is moving fast — and the question for our profession is no longer whether it will affect the way we work, but how we keep up and make the most of it.

On Day 3, Cenred Elworthy, CTSI Lead Officer for AI and Digital, Steve Smith from TrueCall Ltd and Willie Paul from Highland Council, will unveil the latest research from Trading Standards Scotland on how the profession is embracing AI — covering how officers are using AI in practice, the concerns they have, and practical tools and tips to support day-to-day work.

CTSI members attend free. Not yet a CTSI member? Apply today from £75 and join us at Conference for free.

Happy Pride Month 🌟🏳️‍🌈

is an annual celebration of the many contributions made by the LGBTQ+ community to history, society, and cultures worldwide. Today, Pride is seen as a celebration of people coming together in love and friendship, to show how far LGBTQ+ rights have come, and how in some places there's still work to be done.

🌈 Make it this month’s mission to build even stronger communities. Whether you’re among the LGBTQ+ community or an ally, commit to showing up intentionally and speaking up when needed.
