Local charities working with people who are homeless or struggling are always glad of an extra pair of hands, whether that's serving meals, sorting donations, befriending, or sharing a skill you already have. A couple of hours a month genuinely makes a difference.

Looking for a bit of company and a good cuppa? ☕ Chat About runs on Mondays from 11am to 1pm at Basingstoke Discovery Centre & Overton Library - Hampshire County Council, and everyone is welcome.

It's simply coffee, conversation and friendly faces. No need to book, no cost to worry about, just pop along and say hello. If you know someone who'd enjoy meeting new people, why not bring them too?

Basingstoke Foodbank provides emergency food and support to local people in crisis, and there's an easy way to help.

You can shop their most-needed items online through the Give Today shop at https://givetoday.co.uk/BasingstokeFoodbank and your donation goes straight to the foodbank.

If you’d prefer to give in person, there are donation points at local supermarkets and venues.

Every tin, packet and pound makes a difference to a local family.

We will be activating our Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) tonight (Monday 10 August) for rough sleepers to access emergency accommodation.

When we think about rough sleeping, we picture cold nights. But summer brings its own dangers. Heat, dehydration and sunburn are serious risks for people sleeping outside and, with fewer people thinking about homelessness at this time of year, help can be harder to come by.

If you're worried about someone sleeping rough in Basingstoke and Deane, you can let outreach services know via StreetLink . It takes a couple of minutes and connects that person to local support.

Superheroes assemble! 🦸

Our partners at Basingstoke Voluntary Action are hosting a free family fun day and superhero trail this Friday (7 August) from 11am to 3pm at War Memorial Park in Basingstoke town centre - and everyone's invited.

Follow the superhero trail around the park, get stuck into crafts and activities, and meet local charities and community groups. You can even bring a picnic and make an afternoon of it.

It's all completely free and part of Love Basingstoke's August Adventures, so it's a brilliant summer holiday day out that won't cost a penny.
