This year’s theme is “safe care for noncommunicable diseases”. These are long-term conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases, that can affect people of all ages and often require ongoing care throughout life. People living with noncommunicable diseases are particularly vulnerable because they often need ongoing care, treatment, and regular contact with Health and Social Care.
At the Patient and Client Council, we believe that active listening and meaningful public engagement are essential to delivering safer, more effective care for all. Independent Advocacy can support people who are vulnerable. A standardised and regional independent advocacy support is crucial to assist people to raise issues and concerns with their care and to support quality, safety, good governance and independent assurance within Health and Social Care.
