The Library of Innerpeffray is delighted to be holding ‘Signs of the Times,’ our annual festival, from 4th-6th September 2026. A celebration of reading, the festival programme offers a weekend of talks and workshops, all in the setting of one of Perthshire’s hidden gems near Crieff – Scotland’s first public lending library, established in 1680.

The Alliance of Literary Societies Fair 2026 will be held at the Birmingham & Midland Institute on Saturday 3 October, 10am to 4pm.

Meet literary societies from across the country, browse their stalls and hear short talks throughout the day.

Guest speakers include Jim Naughtie, Liz Berry, Lindsey Davis, Frank Cottrell-Boyce and Gyles Brandreth.

Woodcuts, wood engravings and later linocuts have been used alongside type to illustrate text since the invention of the printing press, with many early examples on show in this year's exhibition at Innerpeffray Library.

On the final day of our Festival, Sunday 5th Sept, join Perthshire-based printmaker Linda Farquharson for a fabulous one-day workshop. You’ll learn the basic techniques of relief printing to create a selection of prints, cards and bookmarks.

Next in our series of Festival author talks on Saturday 5th Sept, 3.30pm, we're delighted to host Rob McInroy, whose latest work 'Barvick Falls' has been shortlisted for the CWA Historical Dagger Award 2026.

The author of a crime fiction series set in Crieff and Perth in the 1930s and ’40s, Rob will be talking about his latest novel, which begins on the day WWII is declared, and how Crieff and Strathearn influence his writing.

We're very excited to reveal that our 2026 festival opens with a 'poison pen' creative writing workshop, led by Elaine Thomson, author of the hugely popular ‘Jem Flockhart’ historic crime novels.

This workshop will include a tour of the poisons of Innerpeffray, and expert guidance and inspiration from Thomson, who holds a PhD in the history of 19th century medicine.
