The Knife Angel has arrived in Edinburgh and will be on display at Kirkgate, at the bottom of Leith Walk, until Sunday 27 September.

Created by artist Alfie Bradley and the British Ironworks Centre, the Knife Angel is made from around 100,000 knives and blades surrendered through police forces across the country.

The sculpture stands as a powerful reminder of the impact violence can have on individuals, families and communities, while acting as a catalyst for social change.

To mark the official launch, an opening ceremony took place today, with the Council Leader Jane Meagher, Lord Provost Robert Aldridge, and community representatives in attendance.

Two-day training course – both days must be attended.

Have you ever witnessed play that feels full of emotion — perhaps role-play with other children or imaginative play with toys — sometimes leading to upset or anger, and at other times helping a child become calmer?

This practical training will help you understand what is happening within children’s play and develop confidence in responding appropriately. You’ll explore play as a way for children to think, communicate, explore and make sense of their experiences.

You will:

Build your understanding of the emotional content of play
Explore how children use play to process and understand experiences
Develop therapeutic skills to support children through play
Learn different ways to respond to and support children’s emotional expression

In Scotland we get all of the elements, so how can we use these within play to benefit children? This training will look at the benefits of playing in the rain, wind, snow and sun whilst doing some practical, hands on activities that embrace these elements.

Prepare to get messy as we explore lots of play ideas that use the elements!
