Consul General of Pakistan, Mr. Summar Javed attended the Civic Reception hosted by the Lord Provost, Dr. Jacqueline McLaren of Glasgow at Glasgow City Chambers to commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the Glasgow–Lahore Twinning Partnership.

The event featured the opening of the Lahore Exhibition, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Lahore through the work of Glasgow-based Pakistani interdisciplinary artist, poet, photographer and cultural strategist Syeda Sadaf Anwar Zaidi. Her exhibition explored themes of migration, identity, freedom, justice, belonging and collective memory. The reception was attended by councillors, members of the Pakistani diaspora, and representatives from business, academia, culture and the wider community.

A special tribute was paid to the late Councillor Hanzala Malik, whose pioneering vision and leadership initiated the Glasgow–Lahore Twinning Partnership. His dedication laid the foundation for a lasting relationship that has strengthened friendship and cooperation between the two cities over the past two decades. Links include a partnership between the Children’s Hospitals in each city, educational linkage and support provided to Rescue 1122 during its establishment in Punjab amongst other initiatives.

In his remarks, the Consul General congratulated Glasgow City Council on this important milestone and noted that the partnership is a testament to the enduring friendship between Glasgow and Lahore. He emphasised that the next chapter should focus on expanding practical cooperation in trade, education, culture, innovation and youth engagement, while continuing to strengthen the people-to-people links that have remained at the heart of the partnership.

The Lord Provost described the anniversary as a significant milestone reflecting the enduring friendship between Glasgow and Lahore. She reaffirmed Glasgow's commitment to further strengthening ties with Lahore, expanding collaboration across trade, education and culture, and building even stronger connections between the people of both cities.

The Consulate General of Pakistan looks forward to working closely with Glasgow City Council and partners in Lahore to further strengthen this valued partnership in the years ahead.
