Colson Whitehead is one of America's most vital storytellers, weaving the horrors of history with unforgettable humanity. Following back-to-back Pulitzer Prize-winning novels The Underground Railroad and The Nickel Boys, he concludes his acclaimed Harlem trilogy with Cool Machine—a vivid portrait of hustle in 1980s New York.

Join Colson in conversation with Samira Ahmed, livestreamed from the Edinburgh International Book Festival as they explore why we can't move forward without looking back.

📅 Friday 21 August at 1:00pm at The Mitchell Library. No booking required.

🎥 The Front List: Ann Patchett
📅 Saturday 29th August
🕒1pm
📍 Dennistoun Library and The Mitchell Library

Ann Patchett is one of the most masterful and beloved writers of our time. Her new novel, Whistler, is a radiant story about the power of human connection to defy time, as a woman unexpectedly encounters her former stepfather years after a brief but life-shaping bond. In this unmissable conversation, the incomparable cartographer of human emotion, and author of Bel Canto and The Dutch House, reflects on memory, belonging, and a literary life devoted to exploring what makes us who we are.

A lovely creation from our Craft Club at Parkhead Library.

This young artist had a brilliant idea to create a Scottie all dressed up 🐾👑 complete with crown, colourful coat and plenty of personality! We love seeing imaginations come to life like this.

Don’t forget, the Scottie Trail is still on until this Sunday (16 Aug) there’s still time to take part!

Come along and get creative with us. Kids’ Arts & Crafts Sessions take place at Parkhead Library on Saturdays, 11.00am – 12 noon. More info https://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/event/1/kids-arts-and-crafts-sessions

What a fantastic day at Netherton Community Centre last month, celebrating the spirit of the Commonwealth Games with the local community.

From fun activities, including face painting, dancing, arts and crafts, outdoor games and lots more, it was wonderful to see so many people come together, get involved and enjoy the day. Events like this really highlight the strength, diversity and energy of our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the day so special!

🌙 Wind down with sleepy Bedtime Bookbug at 5pm on Thursdays @ Library at the Bridge

Join us for soothing songs, cosy bedtime stories and end the day with Bookbug. It's also a great option for parents, carers and families who can't usually make our daytime weekday sessions.

Due to popular demand Saturday Crafternoons at The Mitchell are here to stay!

We're turning down the volume on screens and turning up the volume on creativity. It's a space where kids can be themselves, build something awesome, and leave the clean up to us!
