Happy Eclipse Day! 🌙☀️

Okay, so we don’t seem to have any eclipse-themed objects in our collections… but we do have these gorgeous prints by Hannah Frank depicting the sun and the moon! 🌞🌙

A pretty perfect excuse to celebrate the celestial bodies in our collection.

And remember: don’t look directly at the sun! 👀 😎

Women Making It: Quilling with a South Asian Twist
Friday 14th August. 10.30am to 12.30pm

Join us for a creative Women Making It session as we celebrate South Asian Heritage Month through colour, pattern and design!

This time, we’re bringing back paper quilling - but with a South Asian-inspired twist. Using colourful strips of paper and quilling tools, you’ll have the chance to experiment with a variety of patterns, motifs and designs inspired by South Asian art and culture.

Whether you’re drawn to intricate florals, bold patterns or simply want to try something new, come along, get creative and make something beautiful of your own.

No previous experience needed and all materials are provided. Just bring yourself, your creativity and a willingness to have a go!

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a central role in caring for and developing one of the UK's most significant collections dedicated to women's history, helping make our archives accessible for current and future generations.

Full-time (35 hours per week)
£31,956 per annum + 7% employer pension contribution
Fixed-term until 6 September 2027 (with possible extension)

What stories are hidden in the streets of Garnethill?

Join us on Saturday 5 September, 2–4pm for one of our popular Women's Heritage Walks and discover the remarkable women who helped shape this vibrant, bohemian neighbourhood. From the bustle of Sauchiehall Street to Garnethill's quiet leafy streets, our volunteer tour guides bring to life the often overlooked histories of the women who made this one of Glasgow's most exciting cultural and multicultural communities.

Before you book, take a look at this wonderful short animated film, created by students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design, for a flavour of some of the inspiring women you'll encounter on the walk.

Our Women's Heritage Walks regularly sell out, so we recommend booking early.

🍍 WE WON THE INAUGURAL PINEAPPLE TROPHY! 🍍

We’re absolutely thrilled to announce that Glasgow Women’s Library is the first-ever winner of the Pineapple Trophy, a new annual civic award launched by Govanhill Baths Community Trust to celebrate local activism, community solidarity and civic transformation in Glasgow’s Southside and beyond.

The award was created by artist Nathan Coley in collaboration with award-winning silversmith Hamish Dobbie, and was launched today, 25 years after the 2001 “Battle of Calder Street” - the final day of the Save Our Pool campaign at Govanhill Baths.

For more than three decades, Glasgow Women’s Library has been rooted in feminism, activism, community and the preservation of women’s histories. We’re incredibly proud to have this work recognised alongside the many people and organisations who have helped make Glasgow a city shaped by community action.

The Pineapple Trophy takes inspiration from the legendary tale that, during the protests at Govanhill Baths in 2001, someone threw a pineapple at the police.

Twenty-five years later, that pineapple has become a symbol of community resistance, solidarity and change - and we’re honoured to be its first custodians.

A huge thank you to Govanhill Baths Community Trust for this wonderful recognition and to everyone who has been part of Glasgow Women’s Library’s journey.

Here’s to feminism, community, activism - and pineapples. 🍍🍍🍍🍍

A gentle reminder that all of the bathrooms at Glasgow Women's Library are individual, fully enclosed stalls and are gender neutral.

You'll find them marked with these all-inclusive toilet symbols, designed in 2017 by visual communicator Rachele Dunn during her time at Glasgow Women's Library.

As Rachele reflects:

"Working at Glasgow Women's Library exposed me to the importance of intersectional practice and the need for organisations and designers to be inclusive and diverse in their ethos. My time at the GWL has completely changed the way I approach my design process and practice."

Creating a welcoming, respectful and accessible space for our community continues to be central to who we are.
