Swipe to see just some of the highlights from the past year on UGSAS. With much success in all areas of squadron life, it has been another great academic year of activity and achievement on UGSAS. Weekly flying and flying camps have accelerated flying success with several students reaching solo this year. AT has been another area of enjoyment and development, pushing students beyond their comfort zone with mountaineering, sailing, skiing, and kayaking.

Over their time on the squadron, UGSAS students have the opportunity to be involved in a variety of activities based abroad. From Air Power Study Exercises in Gibraltar and Normandy, to Skiing Adventurous Training in Montgenèvre, there is something for everyone.
These trips offer excellent opportunities to learn skills in a new environment and with great people. Coming at little to no cost to students, they are accessible and enjoyable for all.

Ayr Airshow 2026
UGSAS students recently assisted with the 2026 South Ayrshire Council Airshow. Over the two days, students managed the Tutor Display Team stand, and spent time in the model Chinook, showing visitors around and taking photos. Alongside these duties, students helped raise funds for the RAF Benevolent Fund by dressing as Ben the Elephant and gathering donations over the days.

The show was a success and seeing the incredible aerobatic displays was a highlight for the students.

Camaraderie is essential in any military environment, and socials are a perfect tool to help build friendship and camaraderie among students on UGSAS.

Our social events are every other week, with a focus on promoting well-being and friendship between squadron members.
We've hosted a number of socials, from cheese and w**e night, to the popular UG-toberfest. Other seasonal socials have included Christmas Quiz, and Summer Quiz- perfect for celebrating the end of exams.
Socials are popular on the squadron, and it's a great way for the new course intake to get to know their fellow students.

Adventurous Training encourages students to challenge themselves, learn new skills and step outside their comfort zones from both within the squadron, and the wider armed forces.
UGSAS offers unique experiences which build confidence, develop leadership and teamwork skills, and help students discover the resilience and adaptability that come from trying something new. You can even gain qualifications from many of the exercises too! If there is something different you want to try, why not take the lead and plan an exercise for you and your fellow squadron members?

8 Officer Cadets recently had the opportunity to fly on an air-to-air refuelling sortie with no.10 Squadron from Prestwick Airport. The opportunity provided the chance to learn more about roles available within the RAF, including pilot roles, WSO & WSOp roles, and more. Students took turns sitting in the cockpit for take off and landing, as well as sitting by the mission aircrew sensor suite to listen in to the radio transmissions from refuelling aircraft. These included Typhoon and A400 aircraft.

This is just one of many opportunities UGSAS provides, enabling students to learn more about a military environment. We are currently accepting applications to join! Apply using the link in our bio.
