🚆 Transport Secretary Stephen Flynn visited West Fraser Europe's new rail freight terminal at Dalcross, Inverness.

Supported by our £3 million Freight Facilities Grant, the £11.2 million terminal is helping move more freight from road to rail, supporting Scotland's economy while reducing emissions and congestion.

Over the next decade, the facility is expected to remove millions of lorry miles from Scotland's roads, demonstrating how investment can deliver real benefits for communities, businesses and the environment.

During the visit, the Cabinet Secretary toured West Fraser's manufacturing facility and met with representatives from Rail Freight Group to discuss the important role rail freight plays in supporting sustainable economic growth across Scotland.

The Scottish Government has provided over £1 million to Highlands and Islands Airports Limited for the full restoration of island air services from Inverness.

The funding will reinstate the frequency of services from Inverness to Stornoway, Kirkwall and Sumburgh, operated by Loganair, from 26 October.

The return of these services will support essential travel for island residents accessing healthcare and public services on the mainland.

We’re working together to assess the potential for a direct Caledonian Sleeper service between Scotland and mainland Europe.

A working group, bringing together Transport Scotland, Scottish Rail Holdings and Caledonian Sleeper, has met for the first time to take forward the Scottish Government commitment to deliver a feasibility study.

The high-level study will explore the practical, technical and commercial considerations involved.
