On the 11th July we celebrated the very first International Themed Smell Day! ✨️👃🥳

To mark the occasion, there will be an international online event, 'Using Smells in Museums', celebrating the power of scent for education, storytelling, and more.

Our Museum & Learning Manager Lauren Henning will be speaking alongside and international line-up, sharing the ways in which the Tall Ship engages with scent for an immersive museum experience. 🚢

It's always a pleasure to welcome fellow custodians of Clyde-built maritime heritage aboard Glenlee.

This week we were delighted to host Jimmy, one of the crew from Pommern in the Åland Islands, Finland. Alongside Glenlee, Pommern is one of just four surviving Clyde-built ships of this type still afloat anywhere in the world, making visits like these especially meaningful.

Jimmy's visit builds on the trip made by our Development Director and Museum Manager to Pommern last September, continuing a growing relationship between our two historic ships. Although Glenlee and Pommern were built to similar designs, their stories have taken very different paths over the last 130 years. Exploring those similarities and differences together offers valuable insights into how each vessel has been preserved, interpreted and maintained.

During his time on board, Jimmy spent time with our crew, sharing practical knowledge, experiences and skills, while learning more about Glenlee's unique journey from cargo vessel to Italian merchant ship, Spanish naval training ship and finally her return home to Glasgow.

Collaboration between historic ships like ours is invaluable. By learning from one another, we help ensure that these remarkable survivors of the age of sail continue to inspire future generations.

Thank you, Jimmy—it was a pleasure to welcome you aboard, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with everyone at Pommern.
