You can contact the station during weekday working hours on 01475 784183. Please do not use this number to report an emergency, if you require an urgent response then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. This site is not monitored 24/7. Do not report incidents here.

Found something unusual on the beach?

Although rare, it could be unexploded ordnance.

Stormy seas, bad weather and high tides can uncover objects that have been hidden for many years.

Ordnance can come in many shapes and sizes, so if you spot something you’re unsure about, don’t touch or move it.

Call 999 and ask for the Coastguard. We’ll work with the relevant authorities to make the area safe and ensure the object is dealt with correctly.

Enjoy your coastal walk, but remember to stick to signposted paths 🚶🍂

Going off the path could take you across unstable ground or too close to cliff edges. Rain can make the ground slippery, and unexpected gusts of wind could cause you to lose your balance.

Unofficial routes to beaches or hidden coves could also leave you cut off by the incoming tide, with no safe way back.

Remember to check the weather forecast and tide times before heading out.

In an emergency at the coast, call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.

Don’t get trapped by incoming tides. Rapidly rising sea levels at the coast can trap you with very little
warning, leaving you in serious danger.

Stay safe and reduce the risks:
• Check the weather forecast and tide times before you go.🌊
• Tell someone where you’re going and when you’ll be back.🗣️
• Set off for a walk when the tide is going out, not coming in.🚶
• Ensure you take a charged phone.📱

🚨Recruitment Now Open:

The recruitment window for volunteer Coastguard Rescue Officers (CRO’s) based in Greenock is now open for 2026.

Applicants will be expected to reside or work within 10/12 minutes of our station at Rue End Street.

An open evening will be held on station mid September.

There are no formal qualifications required to become a CRO and all training will be provided.

CRO’s are required to completed a number of training modules which include:
•Water Rescue 🛟
•Mud Rescue 🆘 or
•Rope Rescue
•Coastguard Emergency Responder Casualty Care (CERCC) 🚑
•Lost & Missing Person Search training 🗺️
•Aircraft familiarisation training 🚁

Recruitment process:
• Online Application (opens 1/9/26)
• Membership Day Interview
• Medical (held on station)
• PVG background checks

At membership day interview we will discuss/assess your availability, commitments, career & knowledge of the CRO role.

☀️PR EVENT☀️

Greenock Coastguard Rescue Team and our colleagues at Clydebank Coastguard Rescue Team are in attendance at today’s Clydebank Fire Station open day between 11am and 3pm.

The teams are on hand to tell you about the role of the Coastguard and show you some of our equipment.🛟

This afternoon, personnel from Greenock and Clydebank Coastguard Rescue Team took part in a joint training exercise to test our response to a mud rescue incident.

Our personnel were put through their paces which saw 10 officers deploy onto the mud to practice their skillset.

Well done to all attending officers.
