Starting school is an exciting time for little ones, but can also be a little daunting too. With a little preparation and encouragement, most children will settle in easily at school, ready to learn and discover.

We have a range of recommended books covering lots of school readiness topics such as learning colours, shapes, alphabet and numbers, as well as making friends, getting dressed, and practising good behaviour. All free to borrow with your library card!

📚✨ Finished the Reading Quest? There's Still Time! ✨📚

Have you completed your Reading Quest adventure this summer? 🎉 If not, don't worry, there's still time!

Keep reading, collecting your stickers, and working towards your certificate and medal. Whether you're nearly there or just need a couple more visits, we'd love to see you cross the finish line before the Quest ends on 31 August.

🎉 Congratulations to Tabbie, Henry and Mia, who completed the Reading Quest and received their certificates and medals this week! 🏅🎉

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents and carers, why not ask your child how they're getting on with their Reading Quest and encourage them to complete the adventure? A final trip to the library could be all they need to reach the finish line!

Pop into the library with your casebook and speak to a volunteer or member of staff.

A huge congratulations to Arthur, who became our very first Summer Reading Quest finisher this morning! 🎉

Arthur has been taking part in the library summer reading activities since the age of 4 and has thoroughly enjoyed taking part in all the activities this year. He loves sharing his reading journey with us. It's been wonderful to see his enthusiasm and commitment.

Get ready for a summer full of stories, surprises and adventure! From 18th July, come and meet the Curious Creatures who are waiting to join you on an exciting reading journey!

Sign up at the library, make your own magnifying glass and start your quest with fun activities, fantastic books, colourful stickers and plenty of activities along the way. 🌟📜

Whether you're a keen reader or just starting your adventure, there's something for everyone. We can't wait to see where your reading takes you this summer! 🦊🐢🦉

⚠️ Due to the heat in the library building, we have taken the decision to cancel our children's Wordplay sessions this week.

This affects the sessions on Thursday 16th and Friday 17th July.

The library will still be open for you to come in as normal to read and play, and staff will be available if you'd like to chat.

🔎 Reading Quest starts next week! Our biggest summer literacy campaign for children officially begins on Saturday 18 July.

You can sign up at any library throughout the summer holidays to receive your Curious Creatures case file. Every time you visit the library, you'll get a sticker to show your reading progress!
