HEATH ROAD UPDATE - Many of you are aware of the signage and new cabins present on Heath Road.

The Government and Anglian water are funding a £6m project through the Environment Agency and Jacksons Civil Engineering to install an 'Engineered Cap' over a previous landfill operation to stop rainwater passing through it and potentially into the aquifer.

This is a very positive action taken, with the area fully reinstated afterwards. The Langdyke Countryside Trust are discussing potential improvements in reseeding models and improved habitat.

The works are due to be completed in summer 2027.

I know many of you have been anxious to hear news of the repair of Lolham Bridge and the reopening of King Street.

I am pleased to share with you that both will be open in October 2026. Its been a complex project (the Environment Agency have required works to be completed only in certain months of the year and English Heritage have, quite rightly, wanted the work to be completed to a high standard including the use of lime mortar than can only ‘set’ when its not too cold or too hot…this has been challenging this summer.

While works will be completed to the point where the bridge and road will be safe to use in October 2026 further works will be required in the summer of 2027, and so the road will need to be temporarily closed again then. I hope you agree that this is a far better option than the road remaining closed until autumn 2027.
Lots of people have worked hard on this including my fellow Cllrs Peter Hiller and Neil Boyce and Helpston Parish Council who undertook a survey demonstrating the strength of feeling for the reopening of the road- a big thank you to everyone that completed this.

I cycled King Street last week and its looking very grubby with shrubs growing onto the highway, fly tips and more… I have asked for this to be cleaned up before the road is reopened.

Could we make polite reminder for the benefit of the community and our farming neighbours.

Please encourage considerate parking around the shop and Church Lane to ensure that vehicles and pedestrians are safe.

Please refrain from any parking on the green spaces off the road.

On Church Lane, please park with 2 wheels on the studded verge to allow for wide loads.

Just for peace of mind for those concerned. With the recent high temperatures, the Parish Council has highlighted the piles of grass on the village verges as a potential fire hazard to the Council Highways.

They have apologised that staff shortages have delayed the collection and seek to be completed this week.

Helpston Parish Council currently has two councillor vacancies following the resignations of Councillors Lee Kaminski and Alice Langford-Pollard.

Official Notices of Casual Vacancy have now been published.
If, within the statutory notice period, ten local government electors for Helpston request an election, a poll will be held. If no election is called, the Parish Council will fill the vacancies by co-option.

Serving as a parish councillor is an important and rewarding opportunity to help shape the future of our village, represent local residents and support community projects and initiatives.
