🛣️ Roads across Peterborough which have deteriorated due to extreme weather will be repaired as part of £1 million plans agreed by council Cabinet members.

Councillors awarded a works order of £1 million to the authority’s highways partner, M Group, to carry out a series of road repairs across the council’s area.

Funds were approved as part of the council’s budget for 2026/27, with £1 million allocated to repair roads that have suffered from the effects of drier winters and warmer summers in recent years.

Sarah, 36, is a single mum living with her two children. Her local council helped her secure a safe, long-term home, and she receives support to help manage her household budget. She receives help and support for her eldest child who is disabled and attends a special needs school.

From April 2028, Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) means a new council will provide these services, but Sarah will still receive the same care and support which has been a vital lifeline for her.

Councils may look different, but residents will still be supported every step of the way.

⚽ We’re getting into the World Cup spirit and showing our support for the Three Lions by lighting up the trees in Bridge Street. 🦁🦁🦁

The trees and Town Hall will be lit in red and white for each evening of the tournament.

We are also filling the city centre with bunting, so look out for this spectacular sight.⚽

Important information for parents and carers of young children: please take extra care to keep little ones safe during hot weather.

A red heat-health alert is in place across southern England and the Midlands.

Babies need to stay cool in very hot weather as they cannot regulate their body temperature as well as an adult. To keep your baby cool use these tips:

🌞 keep them out of direct sunlight especially between 11am-3pm when the sun is at its hottest.

🌞 keep them in the shade. Place a parasol over the buggy and keep the paddling pool/blanket in a shaded area.

🌞 keep clothing light and make sure hats cover the head and back of the neck. Don’t over wrap babies in warm clothing layers.

🌞 Keep them well hydrated with extra breastfeeds or offer water if they are formula fed or weaned.

🌞 Don’t cover prams or buggies with blankets or cloths as this can make the temperature around babies dangerously high.

🌞 After a day out in the sun give babies children a cool bath, keep nightwear and bedclothes to a minimum – just a nappy is fine if it is very hot – and try to keep their bedroom to 16-20 degrees if you can. If you close the bedroom curtains in the daytime this will help the room stay cooler.
