At Westminster the chaos continues. We are now waiting for the seventh UK Prime Minister in just ten years, and yet another one who will enter Downing Street without their own electoral mandate. This week in Parliament Martyn Day raised the continuing damage Brexit is doing to Scotland’s economy and public finances, questioned why energy-rich Scotland still faces high energy costs, and highlighted the importance of the Grangemouth Flood Protection Scheme as it moves into initial design work.

Martyn Day MSP used his first question at First Minister’s Questions to raise the pressure facing small businesses from high fuel and energy prices.

in an energy-rich country, households and businesses should not be paying punishing energy costs. Scotland will only get the full benefit of our energy resources when Scotland’s energy is in Scotland’s hands.

Public services do not pay for themselves. If we want a strong NHS, properly funded schools, decent local services and support for those who need it most, then we have to be honest about how they are paid for. That means a fair tax system where those with the broadest shoulders contribute more.
