EXPANDING THE REACH OF PHILIPPINE FOOD IN THE UK 🇵🇭🇬🇧

Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque met with Chris Joseph of Kasa & Kin Group in London on 2 October 2026 to discuss opportunities to expand the presence of Philippine food products in the United Kingdom.

The discussion highlighted opportunities to introduce more Filipino products to the UK market, strengthen sourcing partnerships, and support Philippine micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) seeking to reach international consumers.

Through initiatives such as IFEX Philippines and READY4UK, DTI continues to support Filipino exporters in accessing global markets and building partnerships with international buyers.

The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), led by Secretary Ma. Cristina Roque, has welcomed the upcoming entry of Wagamama into the Philippine market through a partnership with The Bistro Group, one of the country’s leading restaurant operators.

This expansion reflects growing investor confidence in the Philippines’ vibrant consumer market and highlights new opportunities for international brands looking to establish a presence in the country.

Beyond bringing a globally recognised dining concept to Filipino consumers, Wagamama’s entry is expected to create employment opportunities and further strengthen trade and investment ties between the Philippines and the United Kingdom.

As the Philippines continues to attract international businesses, partnerships like this underscore the potential for stronger economic collaboration between the two countries.

RECAP | PH–UK BUSINESS DIALOGUE 🇵🇭🇬🇧

On 2 October 2026, DTI Secretary Ma. Cristina A. Roque met with UK-ASEAN Business Council (UKABC) Chief Executive Ian Gibbons OBE, Brand Finance Founder and CEO David Haigh, and UKABC members at a business roundtable in London.

The discussion covered updates on the Philippines’ ASEAN Chairship, the Philippines–UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee (JETCO), and the country’s bid to join the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), highlighting key areas for continued Philippine–UK trade and investment engagement.

The roundtable provided an opportunity to exchange views with UK business representatives on key economic and trade developments and reinforce dialogue between the Philippines and the UK business community.

The Philippines–UK JETCO Business Leaders’ Roundtable brought together government and industry leaders to identify opportunities in trade, investment, and innovation, with discussions spanning advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, life sciences, and emerging technologies.

Key priorities included strengthening collaboration in space technology and advanced electronics, alongside advancing trade digitalisation and exporter readiness through initiatives such as the Ready4UK Programme, helping Philippine businesses maximise market access opportunities under the UK’s Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS).

By connecting industry priorities with bilateral cooperation, the roundtable reinforced the potential for stronger partnerships and greater participation of Philippine businesses in global value chains.

FORGOTTEN ISLAND x REBEL KITCHEN: FROM OUR ISLANDS TO THE WORLD

The Philippine Trade and Investment Center–London (PTIC-London), together with H.E. Ambassador Teodoro L. Locsin Jr. and colleagues from the Philippine Embassy in the United Kingdom, attended a private screening of Forgotten Island, an animated adventure inspired by the rich folklore and mythology of the Philippines, hosted by Rebel Kitchen.

Bringing Filipino-inspired stories to the big screen, Forgotten Island celebrates the country's rich cultural heritage and highlights the power of storytelling to connect cultures and audiences around the world.

The occasion also celebrated Rebel Kitchen's connection to the Philippines through its young green coconut water, sourced from smallholder farmers across the country. From Philippine-grown coconuts to international consumers, Rebel Kitchen helps showcase the country's agricultural produce and the communities behind it.

PTIC-London extends its thanks to Rebel Kitchen for hosting this special screening and celebrating the Philippines' culture, creativity, and homegrown products.

RECAP: Microelectronics UK 2026

PTIC-London is proud to have worked alongside DTI-EMB and Philippine industry partners, with support from DOST, to showcase the Philippines’ growing capabilities in the global semiconductor and microelectronics industry.

As the event’s Country Partner, the Philippines highlighted its strengths in semiconductor design, electronics manufacturing, and advanced technology, connecting with UK industry leaders and exploring opportunities for future business and technology partnerships.

Beyond the event, the Philippine delegation visited Cambridge, a leading hub for research and innovation, to explore potential collaborations with UK institutions and industry stakeholders. These engagements further strengthened opportunities for knowledge exchange, technology development, and deeper UK–Philippines cooperation.
