Last night, we welcomed poet and playwright Inua Ellams for Redacted, his playful live literature event in which ten writers transformed Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World into original blackout poetry.

💡We are delighted to welcome a new cohort to our flagship Emerging Writers Programme.

✍️ The celebrated initiative, now in its eighth year, is geared towards supporting early career writers and lead by Head of Programmes Claire Berliner. It is free of charge to each participant and geared towards supporting writers with a specific writing project, who have not yet published a full-length work of fiction, non-fiction, collection of poems, or had a full-length work professionally produced for stage/screen.

📚 After an epic judging process, 40 writers were selected anonymously from a record-breaking field of almost 2700 applicants, by a stellar panel of judges. Working on a fabulous array of projects, across form, genre and subject matter, the cohort will benefit from a year's membership of the Library, plus an extensive programme of writing development and networking opportunities, peer support, and guidance.

We can't wait to see what this incredibly talented group of writers create!

Last night, LL85: A Room of One’s Own opened to a sold out audience at The London Library.

Freya Mavor delivered a captivating performance in the adaptation of Woolf’s essay by award-winning playwright Linda Marshall Griffiths and directed by Roxana Silbert, performed in our atmospheric Reading Room, where Woolf would once have read, written, thought and been inspired.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for a fantastic evening as part of LL185, celebrating 185 years of The London Library as a home of inspiration.

From 10–13 June, actor Freya Mavor brings Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One's Own to life in a powerful new one woman adaptation by Linda Marshall Griffiths, directed by Roxana Silbert.

Join us for a series of events celebrating 185 years of The London Library as a home of inspiration.

Freya Mavor, star of TV favourites Industry and Skins and the forthcoming Netflix Pride and Prejudice, will perform this new one-woman stage adaptation of Virginia Woolf's ground-breaking polemic, A Room of One's Own.

Written by award-winning playwright Linda Marshall Griffiths and directed by Roxana Silbert, each performance will be followed by a different panel discussion each evening, exploring the themes of the play.

10-13 June 2026, 7-9pm, at The London Library.

On Wednesday 3 June, we officially opened the New Room - a permanent, dedicated space for programming at The London Library.

Designed to welcome both members and non-members, the New Room will serve as a welcoming space, facilitating literary discovery, creativity and enjoyment. It will host events for members, secondary school groups and community partners, allowing us to make our extensive collection and resources more widely available and increasing the Library’s charitable impact.

The New Room opening marks an important investment in the Library’s future. Our building project, Building Connections is intended to help us make our collection more accessible, support the needs of our growing membership, and ensure our long-term sustainability.

Thank you to the generous donors who helped create the room and continue to make this work possible.
