Last Satursday 27th June 2026 meant everything. 💛

Our Refugee Week Community Celebration was more than an event — it was a reminder of who we are, where we have come from, and what we are building together.

For the Vietnamese community in the UK, Refugee Week holds a profound meaning. Many of us arrived with nothing but courage: fleeing wars, separation, and uncertainty, to build a new future from scratch.

To gather in Deptford, in a space filled with food, music, laughter and stories — this is something we cherish deeply. This is when we heal from grief and loss, take pride in who we are, and feel that we truly belong.

We celebrate because our stories deserve to be told.
We celebrate because our culture is a gift to share.
We celebrate because the generations after us deserve to know where they come from.

Our Lunar New Year celebration is officially being highlighted as one of the key cultural events in the borough — a beautiful recognition of the work our volunteers, partners, and community have poured into this festival.

Join us at Deptford Lounge on Sunday 15 February, 12pm–4pm for a FREE, family‑friendly celebration welcoming the Year of the Horse.
Expect vibrant performances, traditional crafts, delicious food, and a joyful showcase of Vietnamese culture — all proudly led by the Vietnamese Family Partnership (VFP).

📺 Could your child speak Vietnamese on CBeebies?

CBeebies is looking for children aged 3 to 6 who hear a language other than English at home - and they'd love to hear Vietnamese.

All your child needs to do is say something simple on camera: counting 1 to 5, hello and goodbye, or introducing themselves.

They don't need to be fluent. They don't need to attend classes. They don't even need to get the words quite right. A parent or family member just writes down how it's pronounced.

Does your little one aged 3 to 6 speak more than one language at home? If so, we'd love to learn from them! We'd like for you to film a video of your child teaching us something short and simple in one of the languages they speak.

You don't have to already speak Vietnamese to belong here. 💛

Maybe you grew up in a Vietnamese household but the language never quite stuck. Maybe you married into a Vietnamese family and you're ready to stop smiling and nodding at Tết dinners. Maybe your children are mixed heritage, and you want them to grow up proud of both sides of who they are.

Vietnamese Family Partnership (Gia Đình Việt), together with our education arm VietSchool London, is opening a new Lớp Tiếng Việt built exactly for families like yours.

🎉 Opening Day: Sunday, 13th September 2026 🎉
✅ Truly beginner-friendly — come with zero Vietnamese, that's completely fine
✅ Open to adults, teens, children (5+), and whole families learning together
✅ Real, practical conversation skills- not just grammar drills
✅ Online (Zoom) or in-person, weekends
✅ A warm, judgment-free community- however "rusty" or "in-between" you feel

Language is one of the deepest ways to feel like you belong-to your partner's family, to your children's heritage, or to a part of yourself you never got to fully claim. It's not too late to start.

Whether you're part of the Vietnamese diaspora, a local who wants to experience Vietnamese culture, a student looking to build experience, or someone who's lived in Vietnam and wants to reconnect with the community — there's a place for you at VFP.

As a grassroots organisation, we reach and support over 10,000 people every year through VietSchool London, our Advice & Support Centre, and large-scale cultural events like Tết and Trung Thu.

This year, we're offering two pathways to get involved:

🌱 General Volunteers — Flexible roles: one-off, event-based, ad-hoc, or regular. We love welcoming back familiar faces, but we understand availability changes!

🚀 Event Management Leaders — Ready to challenge yourself and grow your career? We're recruiting for 4 core roles: Event Coordinator, Marketing Executive, Fundraising Support / Sponsor Liaison, and Volunteer Engagement Lead.

20+ years organising this event. First time actually dancing it. 😂🎋

Our VFP CEO has been putting on cultural events for over two decades — but somehow never quite found the time to practise Múa Sạp herself! This Saturday, she finally gave it a go, and the result was pure joy (and a few clumsy steps). 🥹

Sometimes the best leaders are the ones willing to laugh at themselves and jump in anyway. 💛
