Over one in four people bought a fan or air conditioning during this summer's extreme heatwaves and 73% reported sleeping worse. Yet the UK remains dangerously unprepared for soaring temperatures.

​Liberal Democrat MP Freddie van Mierlo is fighting to change that with his Home Cooling Bill, pushing for zero-rated VAT on domestic cooling solutions and local support for vulnerable households.

MP Freddie van Mierlo is pressing ahead with legislation to slash VAT on home cooling systems and back local authorities in protecting vulnerable residents:

"I’m still backing my Home Cooling Bill, which would provide a zero-rating of VAT for measures like air con, awnings and shutters, as well as requiring the government to report on providing local authority funding for those who need extra support."

Liberal Democrat Treasury Spokesperson Daisy Cooper MP has hit out at the Chancellor's economic plans, warning they won't make a meaningful difference while post-Brexit trade barriers remain in place.
