The Kenya High Commission in London was established in 1963 to pursue Kenya’s national interest in the United Kingdom, the International Maritime Organization and the commonwealth. The Mission has the mandate to forge closer relations between the people of Kenya and the people of United Kingdom in pursuit of deeper bilateral and multilateral cooperation in trade and investments, culture, science a

nd technology as well as other fields for mutual benefit. For the Mission to successfully realize these principles and effectively implement its core mandate and functions, a service charter has been developed to guide its operations. The Charter sets out what the Mission is and what it does, as well as its commitment and that of its staff to provide its clients with the highest quality services commensurate with the stature of a modern Foreign Service.

This week at the Kenya High Commission Amb. Makoloo Maurice received a delegation from the Senate of the Republic of Kenya, led by Deputy Speaker Sen. Hon. Kathuri Murungi, with talks centred on strengthening consular service delivery and welfare support for the Kenyan diaspora in the UK.

The Mission also welcomed Mr. David Kisiaky, Chair of Starehe-UK, hosted by Deputy Head of Mission Amb Maswan, together with Education Attaché Mr. Willie Machocho. Starehe-UK is a charity supporting Starehe Boys’ and Girls’ Schools, giving bright children from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to thrive, and the organisation is now seeking a partnership with the Mission.

Rounding off the week, Dr. Isaiah Oino, Chair of the Stoke UK Diaspora Sacco, paid a courtesy call, with discussions covering the Sacco’s activities, its upcoming AGM, and areas for collaboration.

One week, several conversations, one shared purpose: strengthening ties between Kenya and its people, institutions, and partners in the UK.

Students from Alliance Girls’ High School participated in a Scouts International event held at the Cheshire Agricultural Showground from 8th to 15th August.

As part of their UK visit, the students paid a courtesy call to the Mission to introduce themselves, share their experiences at the international Scouts event, and express their appreciation for the support and hospitality extended to them during their visit.

On Sunday, 2 August, H.E. Amb. Maurice Makoloo visited Blacketyside Farm in Dundee, Scotland, where he met Kenyan seasonal workers under the Mkulima Majuu Programme.

The six-month GoK initiative provides young Kenyans with opportunities to gain agricultural skills, international work experience and income through placements on UK farms.

From a pilot of 50 participants, the programme has grown to nearly 5,000 participants.

The High Commissioner commended the workers for representing Kenya with dedication and integrity, and thanked Blacketyside Farm for supporting Kenyan workers.

The High Commission remains committed to engaging and supporting Kenyans abroad.

On 1 August, H.E. Amb. Maurice Makoloo convened a dialogue with members of the Kenyan diaspora in Scotland, on the margins of the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, following the Kenya High Commission’s Mobile Consular Services exercise in Glasgow.

The engagement provided a platform for candid discussions on the aspirations, experiences and perspectives of Kenyans in Scotland, with conversations centred on strengthening diaspora engagement through education, trade and investment, entrepreneurship, youth empowerment, improved consular services, and ways of honouring Kenyan heroes and heroines in the diaspora.

H.E. Amb. Makoloo thanked the Kenyan community for their thoughtful contributions, valuable guidance, patriotism and continued partnership in Kenya’s development journey.

An engaging week concluded on a high note for the new High Commissioner Amb Maurice Makoloo, who paid courtesy calls on fellow Heads of Mission H.E. Mbelwa Kairuki, High Commissioner of the Republic of Tanzania and H.E. Johnstone Busingye, High Commissioner of the Republic of Rwanda. The engagements provided an opportunity to exchange perspectives on collaboration with the United Kingdom, while reflecting on the future of the UK–Africa Partnership and socio-economic and political collaboration within the Commonwealth.
