Labour has finally admitted the Conservatives were right to oppose the early release of rapists from prison.

But Andy Burnham’s partial U-turn does not go far enough.

Killers, violent offenders and domestic abusers will still be released early in October under Labour’s scheme.

Victims have spent weeks fearing that the criminals who destroyed their lives could soon walk free. Once again, many are learning what will happen through press releases rather than being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Labour voted against Conservative attempts to stop rapists and killers being released early. They only changed course after sustained pressure from victims and concerned citizens who signed our petition.

The Conservatives have a clear alternative: build more prisons, rent prison spaces abroad and remove foreign criminals. Labour should copy it, before it’s too late.

Another day. Another consequence of Labour's war on Oil and Gas.

BP exiting the North Sea after 60 years is yet another warning that Labour is turning one of Britain's greatest industries into managed decline.

Last month’s by-election in Aberdeen was a referendum on oil and gas. People voted Conservative because they want to protect the jobs, skills and investment that keep energy bills down and power our economy.

Only the Conservatives have a plan to turn this around, and deliver cheap energy for people across our country. We would immediately approve drilling in the Jackdaw and Rosebank oil fields, end the ban on new drilling licences, scrap the Energy Profits Levy and Get Britain Drilling again.
