The bee has been a symbol of co-operation in Britain since 1844, when the Rochdale Pioneers featured a beehive in the stonework of the world’s first co-operative store.

It’s been the emblem of our movement ever since, and it’s the symbol of our party today. 🐝

Now there’s a chance to put it on the next series of Bank of England banknotes.

Vote today. Put the bee on the banknote.

Many of you know that the planning application for Briarsmede is going before the planning committee tonight. I called this application in years ago and have continued to push for it to be refused.

I wish to make it clear that this property would not be suitable for any faith to use as a centre due to its location, proximity to other houses and the parking provision.

Thank you to all the residents who have worked with me on the their concerns. I am unable to be at the meeting and initially made a clip to be played but now understand my statement will be read out. Forgive the quality of the clip I was trying to record it between meetings.

Good to raise awareness of this and fabulous to support Andy Man’s Club

We've awarded Andys Man Club with a £17,000 donation this month thanks to a national scheme that recycles metals such as artificial joints and coffin fittings after cremation.

Councillor Tricia Ayrton, deputy leader of the council and cabinet member for climate change and environment, said: “Andy’s Man Club is a very deserving recipient of this donation. Now in its 10th year, the charity supports men and their families by encouraging open conversations about mental health, offering help during difficult times and reminding them they are not alone. Its weekly groups give people the chance to meet others, whether they want to talk or simply listen.”

“This donation has been made possible by families and friends across the borough who kindly gave consent for metals to be recycled after the loss of a loved one. I thank them for their support of the scheme, which helps vital charities like this continue helping people when they need it most.”

The charity now runs more than 350 weekly groups across the UK, including four across Rochdale borough, supported by over 3,500 volunteers and attended by more than 6,500 people each week.

Middleton's regeneration has moved forward again, with the launch of the consultation on a proposed Mayoral Development Corporation (MDC) for the town.
An MDC can speed up regeneration of a particular area using mayoral powers, which can support the creation of new infrastructure.
The consultation wants your views on whether an MDC would be beneficial for Middleton, what it should be called and what its boundary should be.
You can find out more and feed in your views at: https://www.gmconsult.org/development/middleton-mdc/
The consultation closes on 7 July.

Those who know me well
Know when I was teaching one of my year 9 pupils Joseph drowned over summer in a reservoir. Last thing I told the class was to be careful. We can’t share enough in case it makes one young person think. He has a memorial bench at Thornham cricket club and I think of him often. Please have this conversation with your children.

☀️ We hope everyone is enjoying the sunny weather. Please stay safe when outside ☀️
