January is such an awkward month. All the Christmas decorations come down, including the least enjoyable job of the year (taking the illuminated Father Christmas down from the top of the 30-foot chimney) and everything just looks a little less jolly.

This weekend, despite the weather, saw the first acknowledgment that Spring isn’t too far away: we’ve had the hedges cut back before the nesting season begins at the end of February.

It won’t be long before we’re posting pictures of mown and striped lawns again! We’re through the worst of it… ✊
