🏃‍♀️ Just 2 weeks to go until Worcester City Runs! 🏃‍♂️

This year, our incredible runners will be hitting the streets of Worcester to raise vital funds for Maggs, helping us continue supporting people experiencing homelessness and hardship across Worcestershire.

Whether they're tackling the 10K or taking on the Half Marathon, every mile run and every pound raised will help make a difference 👟

🎄 The Big Give Christmas Challenge pledge deadline has been extended, so if you've been meaning to become a pledger but haven't quite got around to it yet, there's still time!

We've now secured over half of our £6,250 pledge target, and we now have until 𝟭𝟭𝗽𝗺 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟲𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗲𝗺𝗯𝗲𝗿 to get the rest of the way there 🎉

𝗔 𝗙𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗧𝗼𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴! 🍻

We're incredibly grateful to the team at Community Funding Advice Ltd who organised the WR5 Ale & Cider Festival earlier this year, which raised an amazing £900 for Maggs.

🍎 Events like the Ale & Cider Festival are a fantastic example of what can be achieved when communities come together for a good cause. Every pint poured, ticket sold and hour volunteered has helped make a real difference.

As if that wasn't generous enough, the team have also chosen to pledge the full £900 towards our Big Give Christmas Challenge! 🎄

This means their fundraising efforts won't just support our work directly. They'll also help create the match-funding pot that allows donations made during the Big Give campaign to be doubled, helping us support even more people experiencing homelessness and hardship across Worcestershire this winter.

We know, we know... it's August, and the idea of knitting a woolly hat probably feels a little strange right now 🤭

But, although we're currently making the most of the warmer weather, autumn/winter will be here before we know it!

❄️ For many of the people we support, the colder months can be incredibly tough, making warm clothing an essential part of staying safe and well throughout the winter.

That's why we're SO grateful to Beth, who has kindly knitted and donated an incredible 40 handmade hats for the people who access our services. Each one is unique, lovingly crafted and made with care, and each one will help someone stay warm when the temperatures begin to drop 🧶

Seeing donations like Beth's is a wonderful reminder of the difference one person can make. If there are any other avid knitters out there, why not join in on the fun and help us create even more winter essentials?

WE'RE HIRING 📣

🌄 We are looking for two 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗯 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀 to provide compassionate, person-centred support as part of Maggs’ homelessness support and prevention service across the Malvern Hills District.

𝘈𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘰𝘭𝘦
This role combines support delivered from the Malvern Support Hub with proactive outreach across the wider district, helping people experiencing homelessness, rough sleeping, insecure housing, sofa surfing and multiple disadvantage.

𝘗𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭
👥 Build trusting relationships with individuals
❗️ Identify individual needs and risks
🤝 Work internally and alongside partner organisations to provide practical and emotional support
⛺️ Help to prevent homelessness and support people towards greater stability and independence

What a difference a day can make! 🌱💚

A huge thank you to the brilliant HSBC Worcester team who joined us for a volunteering day at our community allotment.

They got stuck into absolutely everything and managed to:

🌿 Almost completely paint the shed
🌿 Build two new raised beds
🌿 Plant all of our baby plants
🌿 Complete our pollinator strip
🐞 Work on the bug hotel
🧹 Help with lots of tidying and maintenance

And there are still more exciting developments to come, including finishing touches around the shed and water catchment, and eventually getting started on the pond area.

Our Allotment Lead described the team as “very friendly and engaged, up for anything, worked incredibly hard and were an absolute pleasure” — and we couldn’t agree more.

Thank you so much for choosing to spend your volunteering day with Maggs. Your hard work is helping us continue to develop a welcoming outdoor space for the people we support. 💚

Did you hear Jon on BBC Hereford & Worcester yesterday? 🎙️

Our CEO, Jon Perry, joined Elliott Webb to talk about the Government’s latest announcement on rough sleeping and the ambition to get everyone into accommodation for Christmas.

Jon welcomed the focus on homelessness, but also raised an important question: what happens after Christmas?

Getting someone off the streets is vital, but lasting change needs much more than a temporary winter response. It needs prevention, housing, health support and sustained investment in local services.
