Twenty years after the passing of Dr LEE Jong-wook, his legacy continues to improve lives in communities where access to healthcare matters most.

In Abutia Kpota, in the Volta Region, the Dr LEE Jong-wook Memorial Health Centre welcomes mothers seeking maternal care, patients in need of quality healthcare, and health workers dedicated to saving lives every single day.

Guided by the values of the man who spent 23 years at the World Health Organization leading global efforts against polio, tuberculosis, and HIV/AIDS, KOFIH continues to support governments in improving access to healthcare.

Today, we remember his life, his service, and the enduring impact of his vision.

General health system strengthening begins at the community level with the first responder, the call that gets through, and the help that arrives in time.

The KOFIH Ghana team visited the National Ambulance Service, Ghana to share findings from the feasibility study results on our Emergency Medical Service-Centered Health System Strengthening project in the Oti and Volta Regions.

Together with the CEO, his deputy, and their team, we outlined key areas of collaboration to ensure our project design makes a tangible impact on emergency medical services.

We remain committed to providing for Ghanaians, grounded in the right systems, partnerships, and conversations at the right time.

Legacies are meant to grow, and for 20 years, Dr LEE Jong-wook's legacy keeps contributing to .

The first Korean to lead an international organization and the 6th Director-General of the World Health Organisation (WHO), Dr LEE Jong-wook devoted his life to fighting for better healthcare for everyone, everywhere.

His belief that "we must do the right thing, in the right place, in the right way" was not just something he said but something he lived by.

Two decades on, that belief is still the foundation of everything the Korea Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH) does.

This video is our tribute to his dedication and leadership, a reflection on the legacy he left behind, and a look at the future of global health his vision continues to shape.
