𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐣𝐮𝐥, 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐚 — 𝟎𝟑 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) is aware of a trending video circulating on social media involving a Nigerian national identified as Evangelist Christian Chukka, who alleges that he was issued a Gambian passport bearing the name Omar Basir.

In the video, the individual further alleges that he paid One Thousand Five Hundred United States Dollars (US$1,500) to an officer of the Gambia Immigration Department in connection with the acquisition of the said passport.

The GID wishes to assure the public that the allegation has been received with the seriousness and urgency it deserves. The Department has initiated verification searches within its passport database and, to date, has found no corresponding record matching the details alleged in the video.

The GID, therefore, calls on members of the public to support efforts to establish the facts surrounding the allegation, including the authenticity of the passport in question and the circumstances under which it may have been issued.

The department further urges media institutions and social media users to exercise restraint and caution in the dissemination or publication of the video and related claims pending the conclusion of the ongoing verification process.

The GID appeals to the public to refrain from drawing premature conclusions or attributing culpability to any individual or institution until all relevant facts have been established. The Department remains committed to providing the public with a clear, accurate, and factual response upon completion of the verification process.

The GID reiterates its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the integrity, security, and credibility of the Gambian passport and other travel documents issued under its mandate.

The department maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards misconduct and will take appropriate action in accordance with the laws of The Gambia, should any wrongdoing be established.

The Information Technology and Communications Association (ICTA) of the University of The Gambia (UTG) on Wednesday, 2 September 2026, paid a courtesy visit to the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) in Banjul to explore potential areas of collaboration and discuss how technology can support the Department’s operations and service delivery.

The delegation, led by ICTA President Sulayman Colley, was received by the Deputy Director General, Huley Jallow Cham, on behalf of the Director General, Ebrima Mboob.

Mr. Colley highlighted ICTA resolve and commitment to support Gambian institutions through technology and innovation. He underscored ICTA's commitment to share expertise in technology through strategic collaborations.

The Deputy Director General, Huley Jallow Cham, and Assistant Director General for Administration, Olimatou Jammeh, commended ICTA for the initiative and emphasized the importance of youth empowerment, technological innovation, and knowledge sharing in strengthening public service delivery.

The ADG Operations, Commissioner Sulayman Kujabie, encouraged the Association to explore practical technological solutions to enhance real-time immigration verification, identification management, and operations across borders and processing centres.

The engagement concluded with a shared commitment to exploring practical areas of collaboration to leverage technology in strengthening immigration management, improving service delivery, and supporting the GID’s transformation agenda.

The Director General of The Gambia Immigration Department (GID), Ebrima Mboob, on 2 September 2026, received the new Chargé d’Affaires of the Spanish Consulate in The Gambia, Ms. María Dolores Artola Casariego, on a courtesy visit at his office in Banjul.

The visit was aimed at strengthening the longstanding cooperation and partnership between The Gambia Immigration Department and the Kingdom of Spain through the Spanish Consulate in The Gambia.

In his welcoming remarks, Director General Ebrima Mboob congratulated Ms. Artola Casariego on her appointment and expressed his leadership’s resolve and commitment to sustaining and further strengthening the longstanding partnership between The Gambia Immigration Department and the Kingdom of Spain.

The new Chargé d’Affaires, Ms. Artola Casariego, expressed her commitment to strengthening the existing collaboration between The Gambia and Spain through sustained cooperation. She further highlighted her resolve to maintain and deepen the partnership between the Spanish Consulate and The Gambia Immigration Department while exploring additional areas of mutual cooperation.

The meeting concluded with Director General Ebrima Mboob and Ms. Artola Casariego renewing their shared commitment to strengthening the longstanding partnership between The Gambia and Spain while exploring new areas of collaboration in the interest of both institutions.

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) Commissioner for the West Coast Region, Commissioner Hamadi Jammeh, on Tuesday, 2nd September 2026, held a parade briefing for newly deployed officers at the Regional Headquarters in Banjulinding.

The briefing was aimed at orienting the newly deployed officers on their duties and responsibilities while reminding them of the importance of teamwork, respect for human rights, and zero tolerance for corruption as they begin their service across various stations in the West Coast Region.

Addressing the officers, Commissioner Jammeh underscored the importance of discipline, integrity, and professionalism in the discharge of their duties. He reiterated that the image and reputation of the Department largely depend on how officers conduct themselves and relate with members of the public in the course of their duties.

Commissioner Jammeh also emphasised the importance of maintaining a professional appearance, particularly among female officers. He advised them to ensure that their uniforms are properly tailored and that they maintain a neat and professional appearance at all times as immigration officers.

The Commissioner further urged the newly deployed officers to remain committed to the values and principles of the Gambia Immigration Department and to carry out their duties with diligence, honesty, and a strong sense of responsibility.

The parade briefing concluded with Commissioner Jammeh reaffirming the Department’s commitment to upholding discipline, integrity, professionalism, and public trust in the delivery of immigration services.

The Gambia immigration Department (GID) On Monday 31st August 2026 through its Border Patrol Unit (BPU) based in the North bank Region (NBR) in Barra intercepted Eighteen (18) would be migrants in Essau .

The intercepted group comprised of nine (9) females and nine (9) males in which consisted of one (1) Gambian, four (4) Senegalese , eight (8) Guineans , four (4) Nigerians ,and one (1)Malian .

Following the interception , the would-be migrants were taken to the Barra Immigration Post for processing and further investigation .

The Gambia Immigration Department remains committed to combating irregular migration and safeguarding the country’s borders while promoting safe travels in the Gambia.

The Gambia Immigration Department (GID) Public Relations Office on Thursday, 27th August 2026, concluded a three-day in-house capacity-building training for both old and newly deployed staff of the Public Relations Unit at the Department’s Headquarters in Banjul.

The training aimed to enhance the capacity of long-serving Press Officers in their respective roles while equipping newly deployed officers with the skills and knowledge required to strengthen the Department’s communication strategy.

During the earlier sessions, officers were enlightened on effective public communication, professionalism, service delivery, the institutional mandate of the Department, its legislative and regulatory frameworks, administrative structure, and the historical development of the Public Relations Unit.

As the training advanced, Mr David Kujabi, former Public Relation officer (PRO) of The Gambia Police Force and staff of DCAF in The Gambia gave an insightful presentation on how to strengthen media relations, and understand the realms of crisis communication and reputation management. He encouraged the GID PR team to remain proactive, drawing from his experience with affirmation that strong media relations ensures credible voice and a fair hearing when important issues arise.

Marking the end of the training, the PR officers developed structured and strategic plans, outlining their vision for the future of the GID Public Relations Unit. The strategic plan seeks to transform the GID Public Relations Unit into a professional, proactive, innovative, digitally driven, and trusted communication unit that strengthens public confidence in the Department.

On Sunday, 30th August 2026, the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) Border Patrol Unit in the North Bank Region conducted a community sensitization exercise in Samba Yassin Village.

The engagement brought together the Alkalo, village elders, representatives of the Village Development Committee (VDC), and other members of the community to discuss issues relating to irregular migration, border security, and other pertinent matters concerning border control and management.

In his opening remarks, the Alkalo expressed his profound appreciation to the team for the initiative. He highlighted some of the challenges facing the community, particularly the illegal entry of persons and the presence of undocumented migrants, which he identified as major concerns.

Inspector Abdou Joof, while thanking the community for the warm reception accorded to the team, highlighted that illegal entry into the country and harbouring suspected migrants constitute violations of the immigration laws of The Gambia. He therefore called for continued collaboration between the community and the GID as an essential step towards curbing irregular migration and other border-related offences.

The sensitization exercise demonstrates the GID’s continued commitment to raising awareness on the dangers and consequences of irregular migration. It also underscores the Department’s resolve to build and sustain strong partnerships with communities in enhancing border management and safeguarding national security.

On 25 August 2026, the Gambia Immigration Department (GID) Kanifing Municipality Regional Command, under the leadership of Commissioner Omar Fofana, commenced a one-day capacity-building training for thirty-five (35) immigration officers. The training, facilitated by the National Agency for Trafficking in Persons (NAATIP), was held at the National Nutrition Agency in Bakau.
