As part of efforts and strategies in creating awareness on the effects of illicit trafficking, drug abuse and related matters especially among the youths.

On Friday the 21st, August 2026. The Drug law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia had the privilege to attend a summer camp organized by Center for Research, Advocacy on Women and Adolescent Health (CRAWAH) held Mansa Colley Upper and Senior Secondary School, Jalanbang. The theme: Grow within, Rise above, Lead beyond.

The Director of Border Post and Security of DLEAG, Mr Modou Jobe who represents the Director General, in his opening remarks, Thank CRAWAH for the invitation and the Headmistress of Mansa Colley Bojang UBS/SSS for giving them a conducive environment for this wonderful initiative.

He advised the participants to take the summer camp seriously, learn and share their experiences, focused on their dreams and avoid any form of drugs and substance abuse. Stating that, the youths are the backbone of any nation and the responsibility that awaits them is enormous.

Therefore, they should not allow illicit drugs to shatter their hopes and dreams to attain their objectives in the future.

Furthermore, with his wealth of experience as a law enforcement officer and a Lawyer has seen how illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse and related matters affected many lives and most of them end up being incaserated by law.

In the same vein, the Public Relations Officer of DLEAG, Mr. Dawda Sanyang together with Musa Tabally also gave a presentation on the social and legal consequences of illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse and related matters.

During the session, the participants were given the opportunity to share their thoughts and asked genuine questions related to the subject matter. The session was educational and interactive.

DLEAG remains committed in the fight against illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse and through advocacy, awareness creation, public engagement and sensitization programs which are indispensable tools in the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.

With collective effort and strategies, yes, we can attend the objective of a society free from drugs and related matters.

The Upper River Region (URR) Command of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG), under the leadership of Commissioner Alagie Sarr, on Friday, August 21st 2026, laid the foundation stone for its new office in the region.

The foundation-laying ceremony was graced by the Governor of the Region, Hon. Samba Bah, Chief of Basse, Alhaji Muhammed Krubally, Regional Commissioner of Police Yerro Mballow, Regional Commissioner of Immigration Alagie Saidykan, Regional Director General of the State Intelligence Service, Mr. Omar Sowe, and other senior security service personnel in the region.

The ceremony commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by students from Alluhari Arabic School. This was followed by a site survey of the land allocated to DLEAG by the Gambia Immigration Department (GID), with gratitude extended to the elders of Alluhari village for approving the allocation.

After laying the foundation stone, the Regional Governor, Hon. Samba Bah, addressed the media and delivered the following remarks.

The Governor described the initiative as timely, given DLEAGโ€™s ongoing efforts in the region in combating illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse and related matters. He noted that having their own office space will boost the morale of personnel in due ex*****on of their daily duties. He also commended the Gambia Immigration Department for their kind gesture in allocating the land to DLEAG.

He further commended all security institutions in the region for their collaboration, unity and collective efforts in making the region safe and secured, and attributed these achievements to the leadership of His Excellency President Adama Barrow.

In his remarks, Commissioner Alagie Sarr of DLEAG thanked all security institutions for honoring the invitation, special acknowledgement to the Gambia Immigration Department for the generous support. He stated that his institution plans to construct a structure on the site in order to address accommodation challenges faced by the agency in the region.

The event concluded with joint prayers, lunch, and refreshments provided by DLEAG.

On the 14th August 2026, the Deputy Commissioner J. C. Faye and his team had an engagement with the community of Gidda at their central Mosque.

The meeting was attended by the Imam, counsel of elders, youth representatives and other community members.

The Imam opened the meeting with prayers and lamented on the importance of peace and unity in the community and he welcomed the team for such a great engagement.

Both speakers raised concerns about youth involvement in drug abuse and crime in their community and called for a collective collaboration and teamwork between the community of Gidda and DLEAG in an effort to reduce the abuse of drugs and crime to a bare minimum.

Station Officer and his Assistant both highlighted some challenges they faced during operations and advised compound owners to report any drug-related activities to DLEAG.

Officer Commanding Lamin Camara dilated on the importance of community engagement and the role of the community as partners in national development. He called on the community to work closely with DLEAG and provide timely information on drug-related activities.

Various speakers, emphasized on continuous sensitization and parents/guardians to take up their responsibilities by giving good upbringing to their children.

Deputy Commissioner J. C. Faye thanked the community for their support and emphasized that fighting drug abuse is a collective responsibility. He equally emphasized on the rights of his men during operations and if anyone obstructed them in due ex*****on of their duties the law will take its course.

Finally, he encouraged the community to share relevant information to DLEAG anyone they see engaging in illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse and related matters.

Mr. Ousman Fadera gave the vote of thanks on behalf of the community and he thanked the West Coast Regional command for according to them the opportunity to interact and share ideas on the crusade on illicit drug trafficking, drug abuse and related matters.

Today, the 3rd August 2026, Global Initiative Against Transnational Organized Crime (GITOC) in collaboration with DLEAG had a daylong intensive training program at Kotu which aims to equip participants with advanced techniques in detecting New Psychoactive Substances (NPS) and co***ne

Mr. Mouhamadou Khan, GITOC Analyst and facilitator based in Dakar came to deliver this capacity building training. In his remarks, Mr, Kane noted that this training is a rare opportunity to learn about new synthetic and new psychoactive substances with a view to come up with evidence-based responses and other relevant strategies to stay ahead. He highlighted that the training aims at enhancing the capacity of DLEAG personnel on synthetic drugs emerging drugs in the subregion as well as addressing the problems associated with co***ne trafficking. He implores the participants to make the best use of this opportunity to learn and make the best use of the knowledge gained.

Mr. Demba Ceesay, Director General DLEAG stressed the importance of integrity on the part of officers charged with the responsibility of fight drugs. He applauded DLEAGโ€™s collaboration with GITOC, noting that building the capacity yields professionalism and advised participants to take the training seriously and put into practice the knowledge gain during the training

He further implored on participants to ask the questions and provide as much information in order to make the training interactive. Mr. Ceesay also encouraged participants to be ready to share experiences with other staff of the Agency who were not privileged to attend the training. That way, many staff will benefit from this important training.

Finally, Director General thanked GITOC for according DLEAG the opportunity to train our personnel on these importance subject matters relative go transnational organized. He noted the critical role of international partnerships in safeguarding borders and communities against illicit drug trafficking.
