Due to impacts from Typhoon Sinlaku, the Department of Youth Affairs has rescheduled Island Leadership Day, originally planned for April 24, 2026. The event will now take place on May 8, 2026. Island Leadership Day involves middle and high school participants to be youth counterparts to Guam’s leaders in the Government of Guam, Legislature, and Mayors Offices. This experience will provide our island’s future workforce with a glimpse of the day-to-day operations and skill sets required for a high-functioning and responsive government. Students registered for Island Leadership Day will receive additional details regarding time, location, and any itinerary updates via email. For questions, please email [email protected] or call (671) 635-4392/3 or 477-9557/8.

18/03/2026

The 2026 Governor’s Summer Youth Employment Program (GSYEP) childcare application distribution at the Department of Youth Affairs’ three resource centers has been completed. The number of applications distributed corresponded to the number of youth positions requested by participating daycare facilities.

The overwhelming public response depleted all applications at all sites yesterday at 2:00 p.m. As a result, no further applications are available for the remainder of the week.

Submission of applications will take place on April 17 to April 24, 2026, weekend excluded. Each application has been assigned a control number, and the name of the applicant was recorded at the time of pick-up. During submission, both the control number and applicant name must match our records. Any discrepancies will result in the application being rejected.

Through GSYEP, young people gain real-world skills and meaningful experience working in child daycares. Beyond earning a paycheck, participants develop patience, communication, teamwork, classroom management, and basic child-care techniques. They build confidence, leadership, and responsibility while helping daycares fulfill their mission to provide a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.
