Fire protection is not only about alarms and sprinklers.
Before active systems control a fire, the building itself must slow its spread.
That is the role of passive fire protection:
✅ Fire-rated walls and floors
✅ Fire doors
✅ Protected shafts
✅ Fire stopping around cables and pipes
✅ Sealed service penetrations
These systems are often installed during construction and then forgotten.
But every new cable, pipe, or building modification can create an opening through a fire-rated barrier. Unless that opening is properly sealed, the original compartmentation may no longer perform as designed.
Installing passive protection during construction is also significantly easier and more economical than correcting failures later.
👉 Inspect fire-rated barriers after every major electrical, plumbing, HVAC, or communication-system modification.
Compartmentation may be invisible, but its protection is critical.
