"Among the Sapta Moksha Puri mentioned in , one of the most profound one is Punyabhoomi . But the history of why this land is called Punyabhoomi is very ancient", writes Shri Diganta Chakraborty

“Ayodhya Mathura Maya Kashi Kanchi Avantika. Vaishali Dwarka Dhyo Puri Takshila Gaya.” Among the Sapta Moksha Puri mentioned in Bharat, one of the most profound one is Punyabhoomi Ayodhya. But the history of why this land is called Punyabhoomi is very ancient. A major part of Bharatiya history i...

Geopolitical Analyst & Senior Research Fellow SPMRF Pathikrit Payne shared his views while moderating a discussion on "Deciphering PM Modi's Policy Initiatives To Achieve $2 Trillion Annual Export Target By 2030" :

1. From "Fragile 5" to "Top 5" economies. India has made this journey in a span of only 9 years. This has been possible because of the vision of Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji focussing on holistic economic development.

2. The government has focussed on removing the bottlenecks in manufacturing to ensure that India becomes a manufacturing hub for the world.

3. Under the leadership of Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji, India is now focussing on practice rather than just talking about theories. We have chalked out our own economic model rather than relying on western economists.

Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh (Assistant Professor, Department of Economics, BHU) shared his views during a discussion on "Deciphering PM Modi's Policy Initiatives To Achieve $2 Trillion Annual Export Target By 2030" :

1. In the last 9 years, the government has focussed extensively on boosting the manufacturing sector in the country. PLI schemes have further encouraged manufacturers to boost production. This has helped in providing employment to a large number of people, especially at the lower level of the pyramid.

2. The manufacturing boost must not be seen as a move to counter China. Neither are we following China's model to expand the economy. We are choosing our own growth path. For our economy to grow, boosting manufacturing is a must to expand exports as well as bring out people from poverty by providing them jobs.

3. In the last few years, with an aim to increase exports, we have started focussing on new markets. We have increased trade with many countries. We are also exploring new products and not just relying on traditional oil and jewellery exports. The government is providing various incentives to promote trade in other merchandise.

Shri Dinkar Singh (International Trade & Global Supply Chain Expert) shared his views during a discussion on "Deciphering PM Modi's Policy Initiatives To Achieve $2 Trillion Annual Export Target By 2030" :

1. The approach of the government has changed drastically in the last 9 years. Earlier the industry had to cry in front of the government for change and then it would take years for a policy to change. Since 2014, the government has brought out a number of well thought of policies that have helped the industry to remain competitive in global markets.

2. The Hon'ble PM Modi ji has laid out a strong foundation in the last 9 years. Starting from Make in India campaign in 2014, opening up FDI in many sectors, improving on ease of doing business, Skill India initiative and then simplifying the taxation regime with implementation of GST, all policies have been in sync with the aim of strengthening the manufacturing sector and boosting exports.

3. Indian exports have focussed majorly on traditional goods. ODOP was initiated to further strengthen the exports of these goods. Along with this, we are now entering new markets and gaining expertise in new products. The best example is semiconductors.

4. In 2014, India was ranked 142 in Ease of Doing Business. The Hon'ble PM Modi ji had set a target of reaching the top 50 in 10 years. Many agencies did not believe this and thought of it as an unrealistic target. However, in last year's rankings, we were at 63. We will be reaching the top 50 in the next couple of years.

5. Transportation costs have traditionally been very high in India. The expansion of the road network along with a dedicated freight corridor and doubling the number of airports under the UDAN scheme in the last 9 years has reduced these costs drastically.

SPMRF's SERIES

Dr. Pritam Banerjee (International Trade Expert & Senior Research Fellow SPMRF) shared his views during a discussion on "Deciphering PM Modi's Policy Initiatives To Achieve $2 Trillion Annual Export Target By 2030" :

1. Exports require incentives and support from the government. Earlier, the incentives undertaken by the government were challenged in WTO and were struck down. In the last 9 years, the incentives have been provided keeping all rules in mind and hence cannot be challenged.

2. Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) have been taken up very seriously by the government in the last 9 years. The negotiations are well planned and have ensured that markets remain open for Indian exporters.

3. The socialist regime brought the Licence Quota Raj that decided how much a firm can produce and at what price they can sell the commodity. It destroyed the epicentre of entrepreneurship. No economy can do good without entrepreneurs. In the last 9 years, this trend has been completely reversed.

4. Roads were thought of as a luxury for the rich. However, they are actually a necessity for the poor. The farmers need roads so their output can reach the market smoothly. Manufacturers need roads for their goods to be transported across the country. In the last 9 years, the government has added 50,000 kms of road network.

5. The West is facing a demographic challenge. They do not have skilled youngsters to provide services. India has made use of the opportunity and has boosted service exports. The FTAs have also ensured that doors cannot be shut for the Indian youth who want to go abroad for work. Degrees of Indian universities are recognized by the majority of the countries today.

Prof Bibek Debroy shared his views during the Release of Book 📚 : "Modi: Energising A Green Future":

1. Since Kyoto, we know climate change is an important issue. However, only 10% interventions are low cost. Remaining 90% need technology and hence access to technology is important.

2. While the West preaches, we need to get to the job, ensuring environment change doesn't affect us. We must generate electricity for all citizens while focussing on green energy.

3. Environment conservation and climate change are issues of importance for all. While government interventions are required to solve the problem, awakening the human consciousness will help in taking a bigger leap.

Hon'ble Union Minister Shri Bhupender Yadav BJP shared his views during the Release of Book 📚 : "Modi Energising A Green Future":

1. The western development model has been anthropocentric. In 1970s, the world moved towards a deeper ecological sense led by the countries on the East, including India. Now, Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi ji has given the vision of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam to the world, which is not limited to humans but envisions of One Earth-One World-One Future.

2. During the Paris Agreement, all the countries declared their 'NDCs'. India had declared 8 objectives, including 3 quanitative and 5 qualitative. Under the leadership of Hon'ble PM Narendra Modi ji, India is the only G20 country to achieve its quantitative objectives, 9 years ahead of its target date.

3. India has moved ahead with twin objectives. We have focussed on increasing our renewable energy capacity on one hand and accelerated Green growth on the other side. Today, we can confidently say that our GDP growth is green growth.
