To celebrate 70th anniversary of Diplomatic relations between India and Japan, Tilak Maharashtra Vidyapeeth and The Japan Foundation New Delhi jointly presents LIVE performance and workshop for Japanese Language learners and people who are interested in theatrical performances and would like to know more about this Japanese theatrical art form.
Mr. Izumi Shinya and Mr. Yamamoto Hidekazu will be joining us directly from JAPAN.
They will perform Kyogen LIVE as we Indians love LIVE acts. Also they will conduct small workshop which will be fun filled.
Ms. Dhanashree Sant will be interpreting for them throughout the workshop, so language won’t be a barrier.
Little bit about Kyogen..
Kyogen 狂言, is an ancient theatre performance with history of around 650 years. Here, the language used is ancient one but we can easily relate or imagine through their actions. Usually, the actors speak very loudly as in the ancient times there were no mikes and speakers available. So to reach the last person in the audience they used to speak loudly. Even today same tradition is followed. Through their movements, they depict the whole scene in front of our eyes.
There will be LIVE performance of Kyogen. Getting a chance to see Kyogen is a very rare occasion. So join us in this performance.
Please use following link to register for Kyogen performance and workshop.

Abhra Vyas, our Asia Kakehashi student from Indore shares his on-program experience with us. He writes; “It has been 4 months since our arrival here and although this journey has been rather challenging, I am delighted to have met some wonderful people here in Japan. At school, I was pleased to know that the students were enthusiastic to learn about the Indian culture and India. Of course, breaking the linguistic barrier proved to be a test of times, but the students helped me with learning a few kanjis and in return, I helped them with English. My host family has been incredibly supportive as well which helped me gain more confidence in myself. Spending time with my host family was the highlight of my exchange since my host family consists of many international students as well. Learning about not just the Japanese culture but a little about other countries as well has been extremely informative. As it is my last month in Japan, I will try my best to make the most of it. These experiences will last a lifetime as each and every moment was a learning opportunity.” #AFSIndia #AFSEffect #AsiaKakehashiProject #Japan 公益財団法人AFS日本協会 AFS JAPAN Asia Kakehashi Project Embassy of Japan in India
JENESYS program impacted me at the impressionable age of 16 that has made me excel at my education and career.” shares Madhusudan Rao on how the JENESYS program has impacted him. He further writes, “‘That’s wonderful, Madhu’, said my mother back in 2011 hearing about my selection for the JENESYS Program, by AFS India. The two weeks in Japan transformed me as an individual, made me more structured and interculturally sensitive. While the host family briefly inculcated Japanese cultural values in me, the host school gave a considerable exposure to the Education system of Japan. The serious approach given to varied options of subjects including calligraphy and martial arts along with other Arts and Sciences available for students to explore changed my view on Education. What is interesting is what happened in my life after I came back from Japan. I had become more confident, outspoken and extremely curious to learn new things. It’s mesmerizing to know how two weeks in a different cultural setting can change one’s life. My education and career options seemed wider as I had met and interacted with participants from fourteen different countries and explored several new fields. Today, connecting the dots, I feel that the reason to pursue my research in cultural studies largely comes from my experience in Japan.” #AFSIndia #AFSEffect #AFSJapan #JENESYS #Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan 公益財団法人AFS日本協会 AFS JAPAN Embassy of Japan in India

“I would say that all these amazing memories I made for the time I've been here are different from one another.” writes Aarushi Sengar, participant of Asia Kakehashi Project 2021-22 to Japan. She further adds, “Moving from dormitory to host family is a different experience. I received a warm welcome from my host family and I got more indulged in Japanese culture than before. From making traditional Japanese food to playing traditional games and trying to talk about everything in a different language is an excellent experience I never thought I would get.
