A Commemorative Postage Stamp titled “Somnath Temple: 1000 Years of India’s Unwavering Faith and Devotion” was released today by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi Ji, in the presence of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Gujarat Shri Bhupendra Patel Ji & several distinguished dignitaries.

The First album was presented to the Hon’ble Prime Minister by Shri Ganesh Sawaleshwarakar, Chief Postmaster General, Gujarat Circle.

The Somnath Temple stands as a powerful symbol of India’s eternal culture, faith, and heritage. Issued by India Post, this special stamp carries our glorious history forward and pays tribute to a thousand years of devotion and resilience.

રાજકોટ ક્ષેત્રમાં ‘ધૂમકેતુ હોલ’નું નામકરણ – સાહિત્ય અને ટપાલ વિભાગનો ગૌરવપૂર્ણ સમન્વય

તા. 17 એપ્રિલ, 2026ના રોજ રાજકોટ ક્ષેત્રના પોસ્ટમાસ્ટર જનરલ કચેરી ખાતે મલ્ટીપર્પઝ હોલના નામકરણનો એક ગૌરવપૂર્ણ કાર્યક્રમ યોજાયો હતો. આ પ્રસંગે માનનીય પોસ્ટમાસ્ટર જનરલ શ્રી પવન કુમાર દાલમિયા સાહેબની ઉપસ્થિતિમાં હોલને પ્રખ્યાત ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યકાર ધૂમકેતુના નામે “ધૂમકેતુ હોલ” તરીકે નામ આપવામાં આવ્યું હતું.

આ કાર્યક્રમમાં વિશેષ અતિથિ તરીકે ધૂમકેતુના પૌત્ર શ્રી આઈ. ડી. જોષી, નિવૃત્ત પોસ્ટમાસ્ટર, ગોંડલ હેડ પોસ્ટ ઓફિસ ઉપસ્થિત રહ્યા હતા. તેમણે પોતાના સંબોધનમાં ધૂમકેતુના ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યમાં અવિસ્મરણીય યોગદાન અને તેમની રચનાઓના સામાજિક પ્રભાવ વિશે માહિતગાર કર્યા હતા.

ધૂમકેતુ, જેમનું મૂળ નામ ગૌરિશંકર ગોવર્ધનરામ જોષી હતું, તેઓ આધુનિક ગુજરાતી લઘુકથાસાહિત્યના પ્રણેતાઓમાંના એક તરીકે વ્યાપકપણે માન્ય છે. તેમની સાહિત્ય રચનાઓએ ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યને નવી દિશા આપી છે અને વાચકોના હૃદયમાં વિશિષ્ટ સ્થાન મેળવ્યું છે. વર્ષ 1935માં તેમને ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યનો સર્વોચ્ચ માનાતો “રણજીતરામ સુવર્ણ ચંદ્રક” પુરસ્કાર એનાયત કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો.

તેમની પ્રસિદ્ધ વાર્તા “પોસ્ટ ઓફિસ” ગુજરાતી સાહિત્યની અગ્રણી લઘુકથાઓમાંની એક માનવામાં આવે છે. આ વાર્તાએ તેમને આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય ઓળખ પણ અપાવી હતી. તેમને એક વિશિષ્ટ સન્માનરૂપે અમેરિકા માં પ્રકાશિત થયેલ “Stories from Many Lands” નામના ગ્રંથમાં ભારતનું પ્રતિનિધિત્વ કરવાની તક મળી હતી. આ ગ્રંથમાં વિશ્વના સાઠ દેશોની શ્રેષ્ઠ વાર્તાઓનો સમાવેશ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો, જેમાં ધૂમકેતુની “પોસ્ટ ઓફિસ” વાર્તાનો પણ સમાવેશ કરવામાં આવ્યો હતો.

ઉલ્લેખનીય છે કે ધૂમકેતુએ ટપાલ વિભાગ સાથે સંકળાયેલા વિષય પર પણ લેખન કાર્ય કર્યું હતું, જે તેમના સાહિત્ય અને ટપાલ સેવા વચ્ચેના સબંધને વધુ મજબૂત બનાવે છે.

આ પ્રસંગે ધૂમકેતુના સાહિત્યિક વારસાને સન્માન આપતાં અને પોસ્ટલ વિભાગ સાથેના તેમના જોડાણને યાદ કરતાં “ધૂમકેતુ હોલ”નું નામકરણ કરવામાં આવ્યું, જે સમગ્ર પોસ્ટલ પરિવારમાં ગૌરવ અને પ્રેરણાનું પ્રતિક બની રહેશે.

કાર્યક્રમમાં વિભાગના અધિકારીઓ અને કર્મચારીઓની ઉપસ્થિતિ રહી હતી અને સમગ્ર વાતાવરણ સાહિત્યિક અને ગૌરવપૂર્ણ ભાવનાથી ઓતપ્રોત બન્યું હતું.
