🇺🇳🇱🇺 While August is known to be a calmer time in Rome, Ambassador Schiltz had a productive meeting today with WFP’s Public Partnerships Director Antoine Renard.

The discussion focused on the changing landscape and challenges the humanitarian sector currently faces and how Luxembourg and WFP continue to collaborate in the global fight against hunger. Our strong partnership is characterised by flexible and quality funding, technical and financial support to the use of AI and new technologies in humanitarian aid as well as the joint exploration of innovative humanitarian finance solutions.

🇬🇧 Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg and the Luxembourg Embassy in Rome, in partnership with the Academia Belgica, Centre for History, Arts and Sciences in Rome (AB), is offering a research residency for Luxembourgish or living in Luxembourg authors (writers, curators, composers, playwrights), illustrators, architects and architectural researchers (PhD Level minimum) for at least 4 weeks and up to 8 weeks, based on a call for applications. The aim of this residency is to help architects, architectural researchers, illustrators and authors in the broadest sense immerse themselves in the Roman environment and to encourage networking within the local art scene and with other academies and research institutes, contributing in the long run to the development of their professional career.

🇮🇹 Kultur | lx – Arts Council Luxembourg e l’Ambasciata del Lussemburgo a Roma, in collaborazione con l’Academia Belgica – Centro per la Storia, le Arti e le Scienze a Roma (AB), promuovono un bando per una residenza di ricerca destinata ad autori (scrittori, curatori, compositori, drammaturghi), illustratori, architetti e ricercatori in architettura (livello minimo di dottorato di ricerca – PhD) di nazionalità lussemburghese o residenti in Lussemburgo. La residenza avrà una durata minima di 4 settimane e massima di 8 settimane (le date saranno concordate con l’Academia Belgica). L’obiettivo della residenza è offrire ad architetti, ricercatori in architettura, illustratori e autori, nel senso più ampio del termine, l’opportunità di immergersi nel contesto romano, favorendo al contempo la creazione di reti professionali con la scena artistica locale e con altre accademie e istituti di ricerca. L’iniziativa intende contribuire, nel lungo periodo, allo sviluppo del loro percorso professionale.

🇬🇧 Anima 4tet Brings Italian Musical Tradition to Contursi Terme with a Jazz Twist

On Wednesday, August 5, at 10:00 p.m., Piazza Garibaldi in Contursi Terme will host a concert by Anima 4tet, an international jazz quartet that reimagines Italian songs and the Neapolitan musical tradition through contemporary jazz.

Formed by singer Manuela Rufolo, winner of the 2024 Aquila d’Oro International Award, together with three acclaimed European jazz musicians, the project blends Mediterranean sensibility with improvisation through original arrangements.
Pierre Brouant (piano), Gautier Laurent (double bass), and Jean-Marc Robin (drums) will join Rufolo on stage. The quartet's repertoire ranges from beloved Neapolitan classics and iconic Italian songs to original compositions, all presented in a modern jazz style.

The ensemble's artistic excellence has been recognized by the Philharmonie Luxembourg, which has included Anima 4tet in its concert program. The event is supported by Kultur lx – Arts Council Luxembourg.

🇮🇹 Anima 4tet porta a Contursi Terme la tradizione italiana riletta in chiave jazz

Mercoledì 5 agosto alle ore 22, in piazza Garibaldi a Contursi Terme, si terrà il concerto di Anima 4tet, quartetto jazz internazionale che reinterpreta la canzone italiana e la tradizione napoletana con sonorità contemporanee.

Nato dall’incontro tra la cantante Manuela Rufolo, vincitrice del Premio Aquila d’Oro International 2024, e tre affermati musicisti del panorama jazz europeo, il progetto unisce sensibilità mediterranea e improvvisazione attraverso arrangiamenti originali. Sul palco, insieme a Rufolo, si esibiranno Pierre Brouant (pianoforte), Gautier Laurent (contrabbasso) e Jean-Marc Robin (batteria). Il quartetto propone un repertorio che spazia dai grandi classici della tradizione napoletana e della canzone italiana fino a composizioni originali, valorizzati da un linguaggio jazz moderno.

La qualità artistica di Anima 4tet è riconosciuta anche dalla Philharmonie Luxembourg, che ha inserito il progetto nella propria programmazione. L'evento è sostenuto da Kultur lx – Arts Council Luxembourg.

On Friday, our Deputy Head of Mission Dominique Chevolet had the pleasure to attend a working breakfast with Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Francesco Lollobrigida, organized by the Irish Presidency of the EU Council in the beautiful Villa Spada. This friendly and open discussion with Minister Lollobrigida provided a timely occasion to exchange on the various challenges facing Europe agricultural, fisheries and forestry sectors, also considering the ongoing negotiations of the next EU Multiannual Financial Framework. Many thanks to both the Minister and the Irish Presidency for this opportunity to gather around a traditional Irish breakfast ahead of the summer holidays!

Today, the NATO Defense College celebrated it’s 75th anniversary at the Cecchignola Città Militare. Established in 1951, it has been headquartered in Rome for the last 60 years.

As per its mission statement, the NDC contributes to the effectiveness and cohesion of the Alliance primarily through senior-level education, on transatlantic security issues, enabled by research on matters relevant to the Alliance.

Together with fellow ambassadors and military representatives, including from Luxembourg, Ambassador Schiltz attended the celebrations which included speeches by Adm. Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chair of the NATO Military Committee and Lt. Gen. Max A.L.T. Nielsen, Commandant of the NDC.

This week, Ambassador Schiltz attended the EU Heads of Mission meeting in Zagreb with Minister of Foreign and European Affairs Gordan Grlić-Radman of Croatia. For Luxembourg’s nonresident Embassy to Croatia, these common EU meetings constitute valuable opportunities to exchange with all our EU colleagues and to strengthen our bilateral ties with our Croatian friends. 🇮🇹 A Siena si svolge questa settimana il Palio di Siena, una « carriera » di cavalli tra le Contrade della città, che si tiene due volte all’anno sulla Piazza d Campo e le cui origini risalgono al Medioevo.
Su invito del sindaco Nicoletta Fabio, l’ambasciatore Schiltz ha potuto assistere alle celebrazioni, tra cui la prova generale alla vigilia della corsa, anche se il Palio del 2 luglio ha dovuto essere rinviato al giorno successivo a causa della pioggia. Un sentito ringraziamento al Comune di Siena e al sindaco Fabio per l’invito e la calorosa accoglienza.

🇬🇧 The Palio di Siena is taking place this week in Siena: a horse race between the city’s Contrade, held twice a year on the Piazza del Campo, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages.
At the invitation of Mayor Nicoletta Fabio, Ambassador Schiltz was able to attend the celebrations, including the rehearsal on the eve of the race, although the Palio scheduled for 2 July had to be postponed to the following day due to rain. Many heartfelt thanks to the Commune di Siena and Mayor Fabio for the invitation and the warm welcome.
